Doing some lazy Rugby League research / reading on a rainy day and found out something i had not known......
In 1976 when St Helens played the Eastern Suburbs Roosters for the unofficial 'World Club Championship' they also played the Queensland rep team and Auckland Rep team. They lost all three games (a possible contributing factor being the tour happening 5 weeks after the English comps completion).
As an aftermath the Roosters challenged both Qld and Auckland to games to prove its outright status as champions ----despite both teams being representative teams not clubs.
Qld declined but the Auckland RL eagerly accepted the challenge ( with dollar signs in their eyes !).
In from of a crowd of 8000 in NZ - the Roosters outlasted Auckland outfit 26 - 22 to claim the bragging rights !
Source: " A Centenary of Rugby League 1908 - 2008' ...Ian Heads and David Middleton.
So the Kiwis have had a taste of WCC action.....will they ever have another !
