Souths sack Langmack
June 1, 2004

SOUTH Sydney tonight sacked Paul Langmack as coach of the National Rugby League club.

The Rabbitohs installed Premier League coach Arthur Kitinas as caretaker coach for the remainder of the 2004 season after relieving Langmack of all his duties at the embattled club.

Langmack was contracted until the end of the 2005 season, but has lost the faith of the Souths board after coaching the Rabbitohs to just two wins and a draw so far this year.

Souths collected the wooden spoon in Langmack's first season in charge last year.

Langmack's sacking came after a lengthy meeting at Rabbitohs headquarters in Redfern tonight.

What lies in the futures on B.Smith & D.Anderson????

The idiots who gave him a 3 year contract with virtually no coaching experience (and an inability to put together a comprehendible sentence in English) should sack themselves!

I remember when they announced on the radio they'd signed him for 3 years thinking to myself..."what the f@ck are they smoking!!!???"

Yeah, no coaching credibility or experience, but Souths are digging holes only giving their coaches (Coleman and now Langmack) only 16 months in the job?

That's not enough to take a club from where they've been to where they want to be, and with each coaching change it'll just end up taking them longer...

Flannigan was his 2IC.

But they have not named a replacement.

I was always hopefull we would get Flannigan back, after they sack Smithy.

Here's hoping.

Flanagan is at Easts - he was going to go to Souths, saw what was going on and got a job at Easts.

They signed to 3 years after 2 games, narrow losses to the Bulldogs and Brisbane. A very stupid decision it has to be said. At least Souths have the guts to sack him though, even with a year and a half to go on his contract. They aknowledge there's problems at the club, something Denis Fitzgerald and the board fail to do.

Souths are used to throwing money down the drain, they sacked Frank Curry, Ken Shine, Steve Martin, Craig Colman and now Langmack in the last 10 odd years if your idea of solving the problem is to chalk out a million by sacking Smith and Hiring another coach, thats your opinion, I don't think it makes good business sence.

It's all very well in the short term even though it's still a gamble in the long term i would like to take my kids and grand children to support this club,

Souths could win the comp, unbeaten, and with all their factions there'd still be calls to sack the coach.

Well if they didn't make the mistake in the first place they wouldn't have the problem of sacking him.

Of course they must sack Brian Smith. A coach should never be signed to a five year deal, not under any circumstances .From a business side of things, yes they will make a loss. However, unless they do something then crowds will continue to drop, sponsors won't be as keen, and this will result in a significant drop in profit. In the long term I think sacking Smith is the right decision to make.
