You would think they would have learnt from the White mistake. If they needed a tall hit the deck bowler then get Magoffin or Dorey over as they are bowlers.

If you wanna get runs and proove your meant to be here, then get them here.

Sick of seeing hundreds against NZ, Windies, or the sub continent teams in OZ.

To me we have a few players not as prooven as youd think.

Well that's the thing...Bollinger is tall and does hit the deck hard when it's not swinging...absolutely brain melting decision to leave him out

What's with all the love for Bollinger? He's lucky to play state cricket, the fact he is in this tour is a massive over-achievement for him. You lot are bloody desperate for another NSW quick to call a star obviously

Or perhaps it's the fact that the bloke they picked is a bloody batsman who bowls a bit, thus leaving us with 3 bowlers?

To be fair it bounced more than you would usually expect and in his nervous exuberance he chased it...I just think that regardless of his wishes, Ponting/Katich should have put their foot down and told him to watch the first one from the other end. He looked totally unsettled and any extra time out there would have helped him get a feel for the pitch and even for just being out there. Anyways, it's done now

1. If he is good enough to open for Australia he is good enough to face the first ball.

2. He got out 4th ball. Katich could have faced and got a single and he'd be facing ball 2.

More hysterical nonsense.

1-He was nervous and it showed, they should have let him get a feel for it

2-And that would have still totally changed everything anyways. He might have got out first ball and he might have not had strike for three overs and got a hundred. Point is someone senior should have taken the opportunity to tell him to just soak it up for a ball or two or 6

No, that's all hindsight heroics.

He could have got a lolly first or second ball and put it away for four and it wouldn't have been an issue, any nerves would have been settled straight away.

Conversly, if he didnt face, he might have seen Kat knocked over, we're 1/0 and the nerves get worse.....

You call it that, I call it common sense. North, for example, has all day (or with our lineup, two hours lol) to at least have a look at what's going on, get a feel for the crowd etc. Hughes as an opener didn't have that luxury, giving him even a ball or two is an advantage over him batting first up IMO

The quicker Hughes could get off the mark the quicker the nerves would settle. Sitting at the non-strikers end for an over or two without facing a ball would just make him more nervous.

Smith drops and easy catch off Ponting, followed by a six. Let's hope it's a costly drop
