WESTS TIGERS ANNOUNCE UNIQUE MAJOR SPONSORSHIP

Thursday, 10 December 2009
Wests Tigers today announced a unique and innovative major sponsorship model that will see Proton Cars and MKB Contracting become joint major sponsors for 2010.
This new sponsorship model will yield a financial return well in excess of $1 million for the Wests Tigers and re-inforce its position as one of the NRL’s most progressive clubs.
The arrangement will see Proton Cars feature on the front of the black Wests Tigers jersey with MKB on the sleeve. MKB will feature on the front of the orange jersey with Proton Cars occupying the sleeve. UD Trucks will continue to feature on the back of the jersey and completes the trio of jersey sponsors.
Wests Tigers CEO Stephen Humphreys said the new partnership was another big step forward for the club.
“To have two of our existing sponsors in Proton Cars and MKB Contracting becoming joint major sponsors shows the strength of what our brand can now deliver,’’ Mr Humphreys said.
“It is a great endorsement of the Wests Tigers brand and our plans for the future.
“This is the third time Proton has now renewed their sponsorship and their fifth consecutive season as a major sponsor. Their renewal decision speaks volumes for the return Proton has seen from their investment in our club.
“Although Proton were approached with alternative NRL sponsorship options, we were always confident of the strength and integrity of our brand.”
Mr Humphreys said it was a great boost for the club to have MKB ‘Step Up’ from the shorts sponsorship to share the major sponsorship in 2010. MKB is a leading company in the Australian rail safety industry.
“MKB has been a great corporate partner of Wests Tigers for some years now and we are thrilled that they have decided to progress their involvement,’’ he said.
Proton Cars Australia managing director John Startari said the opportunity to continue to back the Wests Tigers was one that could not be passed up given the past success of the relationship and the future marketing opportunities.
“Sponsoring the Wests Tigers over the past four NRL seasons has provided a valuable platform for Proton to increase brand awareness across Australia and our continued support for the club will be a vital part of our marketing as we launch our expanded model range,” Mr Startari said.
“Apart from sharing the tiger as an emblem with Proton, the Wests Tigers have a wide support base and enormous merchandise sales and this enables us to take our message to millions of people.
“The Wests Tigers is a very well run club with a positive image and strong work ethic with a focus on achieving their goals. We believe they will be a real force in the NRL for years to come.”
MKB Contracting Managing Director Mark Sharp is convinced the upgraded association with the Wests Tigers is a step in the right direction for his business.
“Wests Tigers have proved to our organisation over the past 12 months that they can deliver strong commercial returns,’’ he said.
“As a brand, Wests Tigers will definitely promote the MKB Contracting business in a positive way.
“We are excited about the opportunities of being a major sponsor and the obvious benefits it will deliver to our organisation.”
“MKB Contracting has a strong connection with various charities and community initiatives and Wests Tigers profile and reputation as leaders in this area was a key driver in our decision to become a major sponsor.”
Proton Cars and MKB Contracting will also feature on the Wests Tigers heritage jerseys unveiled at today’s announcement.
The jerseys are now available online through this website or at the official Wests Tigers shops at Concord Oval and GearZone at the Brands On Sale Outlet in Queen Street, Campbelltown.

Fantasic news.

Remember someone on this forum hinted that we were finalising an innovative sponsorship deal. Looks to have come to fruition. Excellent work by Humphreys. Must say I've been pretty impressed by the bloke thus far.

I don't mind the Orange one. The MKB Contracting logo is basically our club colours too.

The black jersey I don't like because of the words 'Proton Cars'. It just make the jersey look crappy. I like the Proton logo:

They should have that on the jersey instead of the words 'Proton Cars'

Also why have the words 'Proton Cars' instead of just 'Proton'. If Holden sponsored us they would just have 'Holden', not 'Holden Cars'.

No ones ever hear of crap protons so thats why they have to add 'cars' to it, so people know what they do.
Everyone knows Holden

MKB Contracting, they the guys doing the upgrade at campbelltown?
Dunno about that but they do railway maintenance equipment

Question for the Magpie old timers... Is the Wests heritage genuinely representative of a past Western Suburbs jersey?

I always assumed when they wore that kind fo design, that Black would have been the dominant color? Not white?

Although maybe reversing the stripes would have been too close to the actual Home jersey?

Like 'em both though I have to say. Very very good designs. My one hope is next time they are revamped in a few years, the Balmain one could be the '39 jersey

I think the Wests hooped jersey is the one Western Suburbs wore around 90 years ago. Personally I like the black jersey with the white V. I think it looks way better and everyone reckonises it. The Wests and Balmain heritage jerseys that Wests Tigers wore in 2005 were good heritage jerseys.

Would depend on opposition/who is the higher ranked (home) team etc

Would expect they would wear the home jersey when the home side though.

On the heritage - Remember mate, they are as much about extra sales than 'heritage' reasons.

I probably wouldn't have bought a orange/double v as I already own an '05 one. I certainly will be picking up at least one of the bumble bee though.

Thanks for your answer on the Magpie one :)
