Ben Burger: "I was playing with broken toes..."

Bill Cowher: "No he wasnt."

Love to see a rookie make excuses, then his coach come out & shoot him down in public.

Roethlisberger told reporters Jan. 25 he wore down physically during the lengthy NFL season and broke two toes while scrambling late in the first half of the 41-27 loss to the New England Patriots.

Cowher said the injury was never mentioned during his meeting with Roethlisberger on Jan. 24 and nothing showed up during the rookie's physical exam Jan. 25.

"I talked to Ben last night, and got it straight from his mouth, and that's that," Cowher said. "He never broke his toes this season. ... Nothing more will be done with it; it's nothing that rest won't cure. It's sore."

I'll take the NFL.com story a little bit more seriously only because theres no bias. Not saying Burger is crap, I just think someone needs to teach him when to just cop a loss. :D

Apparently he broke 2 toes in college, and he probably meant he re-injured them, not broke them.

Everything I saw and read about Ben all season made him look like a down to earth, mature rookie. He didn't let his early success go to his head. He blamed himself for playing poorly in the Jets playoff game. To call him an excuse-maker just doesn't ring true.

That first line is clutching at straws isnt it Steve? I've stubbed my toe on a chair leg but when relaying the tale never confused it with amputation... :p

Yeah, I totally agree he looked seemed down to earth, but he was also winning. You didnt see how he would react to a loss because there wasnt one. My original point remains, he may have a certain appeal but BSing reporters after a loss is never going to get him anywhere.

Ben has been a touch overrated for this season, but his potential is humungous. However, it is embarassing for him if a coach comes out like that.
