And we have the likes of Sullivan, Bosnich, Bickerstaff, Simmons, Dally and Kent as backup. Pretty flash roster Anderson's put together (with the exception of the #9, or course...)

Wouldn't change a thing. Though I think both Dave Simmons and Bird will be automatic picks in our best 13 by the end of the year. I also believe Dimitri Pelo will be up to first grade standard.

I would start Kent over Rieck. Kent was our only back who could tackle this year and his attack got better and better. He stays on his man and his safe under the high ball from being a fullback. I'd put him on the wing over Rieck myself.

I think we should just wait and see who performs in the trials.
Alot of these new blokes have to prove themselves in the trials for mine.
It will be interesting to see how Franze has recovered from that serious knee injury. He may take a bit of time to get back into first grade.

This is my tentative side;

Peachey
Merrit
Vagana
Kent
Reick
Sullivan
Kimmorley
Hilder
Nutley
Bailey
Beattie
Bosnich
Stevens Will he be fit and ready

Bench

Galloway
Lomu
Newton? Is he suspended first fewgames
Bird

Haven't seen Russo play
Franze has a question mark still on recovery
Gallen will be pushing strongly for a spot
Pelo? Will have to prove himself
Bickerstaff will have to recapture form
Aitken should start in Premier League and gain some confidence. Wouldn't surprise to see him at 5/8 later on in the year.
Dallana will push strongly for a spot.

Positions will be hotly contested this year more than any other year I can remember.

Is McGoldrick back? I'd like to see him in the centres in the trials and see how he goes. Have to get Bailey out of the centres.(IMO)

Whitey, Dean is only about 28. Sure, it's old, but ET played until he was 35. Darren Smith just played a Test at 34, from his wheelchair in the stands. And there's a bloke called Steve Waugh (OK, different sport, but the principle is the same) who is 38 and positively ANCIENT compared to most pro athletes - But, as with ET, what price do you put on their BRAINS and their positive influence on the younger blokes when their speed and reflexes start to let them down?

Deano will go just fine - And we would not be buying him, he would be on match payments only, if that. Hell, we should sign him as a lower grade coach Mon-Fri, and whack the #9 or #17 jumper on him come the weekend.

My team for Round 1? Well, it's a long way off, but...

1. Peach
2. Kent
3. Vagana
4. Bailey
5. Franze (I know, I know, he's a centre...but Bailey was a 2nd rower!)
6. Sullivan
7. Noddy

8. Stevo
9. Gibson
10. Beattie
11. Mutley
12. Bickerstaff
13. Hilder

14. Gallen
15. Bosnich
16. Galloway
17. Mr. T.R. Eister (Bit like that guitarist bloke, Mr. D.I. Esel that used to play on the 12th Man records

Meh I'll do my team then..

1. Peachey
2. Kent
3. McGoldrick
4. Franze (He played his best game this year on the wing but his a great centre)
5. Merritt
6. Vagana
7. Kimmorley
8. Stevens
9. Treister
10. Beattie
11. Nutley
12. Bailey
13. Hilder

14. Newton
15. Bird
16. Lomu/Gallen
17. Galloway/Sullivan

We have a lot of depth now which is good. We have 3 rep front rowers, two huge young monsters in Galloway and Newton and just good depth.

I've let out Isemonger who finished the year going great and Bosnich who did the same. Plus Gallen is fighting out for a bench spot in my team with a NZ rep and the start of this year Gallen was our best forward.

I'd start with Vagana at 6 before Aitken because of how he played there in the test match and also because it allows us to have 3 centers and a lot of strike power to go with our huge forwards :D

I think an important point that needs addressing is the fact that we need a forward who can take charge and lead the other forwards. Beattie was captain once and if he regains consistent form he could be an option, but that's no certainty to happen. Treister could be a good choice, if he returns. Unfortunately there are no standouts, which could prove to be a problem.

A surprise with Bird at hooker and Sullivan at 5/8, but maybe best way to use these 2 as well with Hilder at lock, and mix and match on field, the art of surprise can go a long way to winning the premership.
