YEP !!... BANG ON PETE.. I AGREE WITH YA!!..100%.. & THERE ARE TOO MANY ON THE PANEL... & BE GRATEFUL.. THE PRODUCERS HAVE'NT ..PUT.. PHIL GOULD..&.. LAURIE DAILEY.. INTO THE MOSH PIT.. BECAUSE IF THEY DID... WE'D BE HEARING SERMONS & LECTURES ON REFEREE ETHICS... &... UNECESSARY JIB JAB... BY THE OTHER PARTY...THE OTHERS ON THE FOOTY SHOW PANEL ... WOULD'NT BE ABLE TO GET A WORD IN !!..............
I do agree that there are too many people on the panel, and like the cricket commentary box, it starts to become a war between Matthew Johns and the rest of the panel, in regards to who can say the most words. Fatty's also loves to cut people off, and that does get very annoying and rude (when someone tries to make a point, and just as they're about to get to the crux of it, he'll just step in).
At very most, there should only be 3 permanent pannelists, so if I had to cut one, it would be Paul Harragon (as he adds absolutely nothing to the show, in terms of the football component and the comedic component). He would be better going back to the Newcastle Knights board fulltime, where he's currently a boardmember (although there was a lot of controversy at the recent elections, where it was deemed that the Chief hadn't even turned up to 50% of the meetings. For a boardmember, who gets paid very well, that's extremely pathetic to not even attend half the meetings).
So as I said 4 permanent members is too much. It should only be 3 at very most (preferably in the format that it use to be. 2 main co-hosts (who were Fatty and Sterlo), and you'd have the sidekick or person who adds the comments (who use to be Blocker)). That combo worked very well. I must also say that Fatty must be agonisingly close to the end of his duration there. He's completely lost that banter and commitment to give his 100% all to the show ever since he had that brain injury and also when he was excluded from the commentary team. Matt Johns, I would keep him on the show, but in a reduced role. I'm starting to see too much of the Matt Johns show now, and it sorta drowns out the whole show. He would be good in all the street talk segments and off-studio pieces. With special guests, I'd have one who would stay on the panel for the entire duration of the show. And furthermore, if it is a current player, they must be able to speak English clearly and not look down at the table when speaking to others. Some crashcourse in on-camera presentation and speaking skills would be very good for the likes of 'certain players' who frequently make guest appearances on the show.
