Soccer fan first......rugby league fan wayyyyy in 2nd.

But even I was really bemused seeing the gleeful way in which they promoted the clash.

I guess for the Footy Show, they would see it as grabbing a few extra ratings points if possible, but I mean... it was a long segment, then you had Sterlo coming in later TWICE for "World exclusive" in the middle of another segment....I mean come on, 70,000 sold for the socceroos game, why the hell arent you promoting the Parra Sharks game with the gnome, why not give a double pass to that or something???

It really should not come down to the Footy Show to be promoting other codes. And to the guy who said Shane Warne....cricket has no bearing on leagues success.
This is promoting a game which could potentially have someone decide to go to the soccer instead of league this weekend. Shameful act

i'm inclined to agree with The Tax Man (never thought i'd say that o_O) that we should be attempting to court the soccer fans into watching league. quite simply, they're everywhere... and you also get all the expats on board too. we don't compete with them directly for crowds. we have nothing to lose and everything to gain by getting soccer fans watching our TV shows, going to our games etc. soccer being popular in australia will not have a negative effect on league. promotion for a single international soccer game will mean squat if a handful of soccer fans enjoy the show, check out a game of league and enjoy it, and adopt our sport as their off season sport.

cross promotion aside - i think it is a decent strategy to get more people watching our game.

What do you mean court soccer fans to watching league? Theres more than plenty of league fans who need to be courted to attend.

They even had muff diver Alison Annan on there from the hockyroos back in 1996.
Oh and how could i forget when they had Paul Roos on there.
Pathetic.

i remember that one....Roos came out and the crowd all said his name in a low tone. came across as a 'boo' and Fatty got into the crowd about 'giving him a fair go' before he eventually realised. fuuny!

just because our current fans arn't going to games doesn't mean we shouldn't be trying to attract new ones.

our own fans not going to games is a completely separate issue.

yeh and what sport do they govern? Football.....

Association football, which is distinct from Gaelic football, American football, Australian football and Rugby football. Each sport has a right to be called 'football' regardless of what a bunch of wannabe Euros try to dictate.

Tickets to a game involving Australia is something that most people would like, whereas if a non sharks or parra fan were to get the tickets, they probably wouldn't even go.

And more interest in soccer could be bad news for union and AFL.

Agree.

Next week we'll have friggin Barney Hall from the Swans on the league Footy Show.

We wonder why league crowds are down when The Footy Show tells us to Get out and watch the soccer on Sat night instead of a RL game!!

I wouldn't be joking too soon about having Barry Hall on the NRL Footy Show. Afterall, they did bring on Rebecca Wilson 3 or so years ago.
