No link available but the back page of the Cairns Post today trumpeted a trial btw the Cowboys and Titans in Cairns in February 2008. It's a done deal apparently.

I have been wondering for months now how the NRL will celebrate 100 years?

You would think they have have alot on offer. Original jerseys, fixtures to open the season similar to 1908 where appropriate, Kangaroos wearing the original jersey, a DVD release, maybe even a one off return of the world sevens? So many things could be done to celebrate 2008.

I was thinking all the clubs could look at putting out a series of DVDs of their greatest matches, release club history DVDs on those who don't already have them out.

What the NRL chooses to do on the other hand is the big problem.

With the Titans entering the comp I'd like to see the three QLD teams play an annual pre-season tri series. Call it the Queensland Challenge or whatever and sell it to Fox Sports as a Charity Shield like grudge contest. If played with no final then each team would still get its two NRL sanctioned pre-season matches, one nominally at home and one nominally away (of course the matches would most likely be played in country centres anyway), and a spare weekend while the other two sides play where they could choose to either not play, play a lower division team, or play another NRL team. If it were held this year then schedule would have been somthing like...

Sat 17th Feb - Broncos vs Titans - Toowoomba
Sat 24th Feb - Titans vs Cowboys - Rockhampton
Fri 2nd Mar - Cowboys vs Broncos - Cairns
Mar 9,10,11 - Rest weekend
Mar 16,17,18 - NRL Round 1

Of course with the Broncos playing in the WCC it would have been impossible this year anyway but for future years it could be built up as an annual tradition. An extra opportunity for the Queensland team's to play each year and build their rivalry. And a trophy for state pride.

Leigh.

When we watch the tigers in canberra we usually buy a few DVDs.
Often an overlap is created and some poor sod is being smashed by numbers in gang tackles
I think the Tele should give lots of these DVDs away to get us pumped for the season ahead

I think you'd be in danger of killing the golden goose.

I like seeing different teams up here for the trials.

The venues would be interesting though. Mackay would be preferred to Rocky, particularly with their redevelopment happening. But they may wish to play one home game each which would give SEQ two games each year. The Gold Coast would play at Ipswich, Tweed or Burleigh but where would the Broncos play now that their link to Toowoomba is gone?

Does Redcliffe still have a link with the Rorters? Do the Broncos have a link with Redcliffe now? Who are Wynnum aligned with?

Redcliffe and Wynnum are both aligned with the Broncos. They have been affiliate clubs since the start of last season, hence the Shane Perry and Nick Emmet involvement with the Broncs last year.
