Announcement expected
A decision is expected to be announced tomorrow on who will host next years City, Country Rugby League match.

The match will definitely be held in the Central West.

It's been narrowed down to Orange and Parkes who are eagerly awaiting tomorrow's decision.

And former South Sydney and Balmain Tiger's player Jamie Kelso has been announced as coach of the Orange Hawks for the 2009 season.

Kelso hopes his experience will help bury the horrors of the Hawks past few seasons.

2009 CITY V COUNTRY VENUE ANNOUNCED

CRL

2008-10-20

Country Rugby League Chief Executive Officer Terry Quinn today announced Orange's Wade Park as the venue for the 2009 Country-City Origin Clash.

The representative fixture scheduled for Friday May 8, makes a welcome return to the Western Region after two years at coastal venues (2007 Coffs Harbour, 2008 Wollongong).

"The proposal submitted by Orange City Council was very impressive," said Quinn today.

Quinn emphasised that all four Rugby League clubs, Orange CYMS senior and junior, Bloomfield Junior Rugby League and Orange Hawks, will be involved and benefit from the fixture.

"The CRL looks forward to working with both the junior and senior Orange clubs to promote rugby league not only in Orange itself but across the Western Region and Country New South Wales."

It will be the second high profile match played in Orange in the less than 18 months with the city successfully staging a National Rugby League match between Canberra Raiders and Brisbane Broncos in February.

The St George Illawarra Dragons today announced their home game split for the 2009 Telstra Premiership.
The Dragons will return to their traditional heartlands for all home games with redevelopment works at Jubilee Oval scheduled to be completed next month enabling six home games to be played at Kogarah and six at WIN Stadium, Wollongong.
“Everyone at the Dragons is excited about playing at Jubilee Oval next year and being back within our region,” said Dragons CEO Peter Doust. “The upgraded facilities are something that I am sure our Corporate Partners, Members and supporters will also appreciate.
“The determination of the home game split in 2009 has been based around the Club’s objectives of spreading the games evenly across the region while taking into consideration the availability of venues and commercial opportunities,” said Dragons CEO Peter Doust.

The Dragons will host the Titans in their first home game of the year at WIN Stadium, in Round 2. Wollongong will also host the Warriors (Rnd 8), Panthers (Rnd 12), Cowboys (Rnd 14), Eagles (Rnd 18) and Broncos (Rnd 24).

The much anticipated return to Jubilee Oval will occur in Round 3 in the local derby against the Sharks. Kogarah will also host the Knights (Rnd 6), Bulldogs (Rnd 10), Roosters (Rnd 17), Storm (Rnd 21) and Eels (Rnd 26).

The Dragons will play three pre-season matches against the Roosters, Bulldogs and Rabbitohs.
The opening game of the year will see the St George Illawarra Dragons play in Perth for the first time against the Roosters at Members Equity Stadium on Saturday, February 14. The Dragons will also be involved in the promotion of Rugby League in Western Australia through a variety of activities at the corporate and ‘grass roots’ levels.
The second pre-season match will be against the Bulldogs in the Mercury Challenge on Saturday, February 21 and finally the traditional Charity Shield v Rabbitohs at ANZ Stadium on Saturday, February 28.

Looks like we're waiting on the following for fully confirmed venues in terms of "on-the-road" matches...

Bulldogs (Cowboys clash.. Adelaide?)
Manly (reserving the right to move two games, probably one to Bluetongue and one to Stockland)
Parramatta (confirming the other ANZ game. One v Bulldogs... other v Souths?)

Bulldogs move Titans away clash to Queensland

The Jetstar Gold Coast Titans' 2009 premiership campaign has been given a boost with the Bulldogs deciding to move their round-19 home game against the Gold Coast from Sydney to Suncorp Stadium.
The shift means the Jetstar Titans will play five games in south-east Queensland over the crucial six-week period towards the end of the State of Origin series.
The Jestar Titans suffered this season because their draw was laced heavily with away games at the back end.Combined with injuries to players, it was a major factor in the Gold Coast's fade from finals contention.
"It (the Bulldogs) is an important game for us, and we are more than happy for them to bring it to our backyard," said Jetstar Gold Coast Titans managing director Michael Searle.
Following the second Origin game on June 24, the Titans will take on the Warriors at Skilled Park (round 16) and the Raiders at Canberra Stadium (round 17) before returning to Robina to play Parramatta (round 18).
After the third Origin on July 15, the Coast will meet the Bulldogs at Suncorp (round 19), followed by back-to-back home blockbusters against the Broncos (round 20) and Cowboys (round 21).
Bulldogs CEO Todd Greenberg said the club was keen to turn the Titans’ clash into a double-header with the Broncos round-19 match against Souths, also scheduled for Suncorp Stadium.NRL chief operating officer Graham Annesley confirmed a double-header was a possibility but said it would depend on co-operation from broadcasters.

I'd love to see more games in the country, take a few home games away from Souths/Roosters/Penrith and send them to Wagga, Adelaide, Perth, Central Queensland.

The St George Illawarra Dragons have today been informed that their opening game of the season against the Storm will be on Friday, March 13 2009 at the Telstra Dome in Melbourne.
“I can’t think of a better way to start the 2009 season,” said Dragons Head Coach Wayne Bennett. There is a great rivalry between the Storm and the Dragons and it will certainly be a great challenge against the Grand Finalists for the past three years.
“It will be an exciting match-up to showcase the game of rugby league in Melbourne before the AFL season proper begins and hopefully we can get some great support from Dragons partners, Red V Members and fans,” added Bennett.
The NRL is due to release the schedule for the opening six rounds in the coming weeks, but with this information becoming public, the Club determined to advise Corporate Partners, Red V Members and fans to this opening interstate fixture.

That's good to know. The Dragons have become one of the Storm's greatest rivals over the past decade, and the talk about striking before the AFL season starts with the potential move to the Tesltra Dome is also positive.

I'd wager that Broncos V Cowboys ratings blockbuster going live into QLD will be the alternate Friday Night game for Round 1.

The Cowboys and Broncos have indicated that it is likely but I guess we'll have to wait and see.
