There is a rumour that Milne could be back at SL for round 1.

The bad thing about the injuries is 5 of them are backs , no club could handle 5 injuries at once in the backline and at least 4 of them are definate FGers.

edit: just read that Joe Picker is injured as well

Scan has Tom on cards for opener

BY DAVID JEAN, RUGBY LEAGUE
04 Mar, 2010 08:16 AM

Representative back-rower Tom Learoyd-Lahrs could make a shock return to the Canberra Raiders line-up for their round one clash with Penrith, after scans yesterday revealed less damage to his left knee than first feared.

Learoyd-Lahrs has a small tear in his medial ligament, after twisting his knee in a tackle during the Raiders' trial loss to the Bulldogs on Saturday.

He missed three games with a similar injury last season.

But after initially fearing he would miss up to the first three rounds of the season, Learoyd-Lahrs said he was an outside chance of lining up against the Panthers at CUA Stadium in 10 days.

''It's the best possible result really,''Learoyd-Lahrs said.

''It's only a very small tear and the doctor said we can push for round one for sure.

''If not I should be right for round two definitely.

''It's definitely a relief, I don't want to miss any games this season if possible.''

Injury Update
Justin Carney – Progressing well, should be back in full training soon. Expected to recommence playing somewhere between round 4-6
Tom Learoyd-Lahrs – His hamstring has responded well, back for round two.
Joel Monaghan – Has a cast on his hand bigger than one of Mal Meninga’s. Should be back on the field between 6-8 weeks time.
David Milne – Back in full training and available
Joe Picker – Back in full training and available

From the Raiders members email

So Lars back next week and we drop the back who preforms the worst for Milne IMO...unless they all have blinders

Good to have an update on the others, knew about TLL. Can't wait to have Milne back as we could use him on the wing.

Haven't seen the match yet but wouldn't be surprised at all with that. Hes a bit like SBW with his ability to look dangerous whether at centre or backrow.

We need his impact in defense also he played a lot of good passes to vidot. He didnt look slow either. I thought he was one of our better players.

injuries to miller and fensom could, maybe, possibly, hopefully mean tongue plays lock.
(prays)

unfortunately troy thompson will probably be back next week. His bad handling and penalities are the last thing the team needs.

Can't see Tongue playing lock, Furner will find someone most likely Galea to play lock and then TLL or Thurling at 11.

Raiders hooker Travis Waddell is facing eight weeks on the sidelines after breaking his jaw in a nasty challenge during Canberra's 20-point loss to the Gold Coast Titans at Skilled Park on Saturday.
Waddell was hit late and high by Titans forward Bodene Thompson midway through the second half.

The 20-year-old Indigenous All Stars dummy-half will have surgery to repair the damage today.

In another blow, outside back David Milne yesterday reaggravated the groin injury which had kept him off the field for the past nine months.

Milne lasted just 30 minutes of Souths Logan's Queensland Cup clash with the Northern Pride in Brisbane.

Milne will have tests today to determine the extent of the damage.

Raiders coach David Furner called on the NRL's match review committee to look closely at the incident involving Waddell this morning, saying Thompson had clearly jumped into the hooker after he had passed the ball.

Furner was furious that one of his best young talents had been wiped out in such a manner, but stopped short of calling for Thompson to cop a lengthy suspension.

''I had a look at it this morning and it was definitely high and he definitely jumped into him,'' Furner said yesterday. ''I'm not going to come out and say how long he should be suspended for or anything like that.

''But I do hope they have a very close look at it because I've got one of my young players there with a broken jaw. Travis is pretty sore this morning and he will be out for a while.''

The loss of Waddell is a big blow for the Raiders. He has added valuable spark to Canberra's attack when coming off the bench and is quickly developing into a first-class player despite having played just 13 NRL games.

His injury has also left Furner with a selection dilemma ahead of Sunday's clash with the Wests Tigers at Canberra Stadium.

Normally he would draft Glen Buttriss on to his bench as a back-up for first-choice No9 Alan Tongue.

But Buttriss is battling an elbow injury and failed to play for Queensland Cup side Souths Logan yesterday. Furner has no other specialist hookers in his squad, meaning he may be forced to play Tongue at dummy-half for the entire 80minutes a tough ask considering he will be lining up against the Tigers' NSW State of Origin star Robbie Farah.

While losing Waddell is a massive blow for the Raiders, who have won just one of their opening three games, they are likely to finally welcome back NSW forward Tom Learoyd-Lahrs, who showed solid form playing for Souths Logan yesterday.

This has left us in a bad situation, No butts or Waddell, no hooker. Tongue has shown he isnt up to 80 minutes of dummy half.
I have suggested maybe using Carney but he will need fitness first and thats when he does come back.

We may need to draft in U20 McIlwrick, its a risk but we are struggling.

What chance is there of buying a dummyhalf. Who is available?

Definitely need to bring someone in to take over at hooker as we will be going nowhere with Tongue at hooker. McIlwrick probably isn't quite there but might be worth trying him and seeing how he goes. Else we might need to convert Herbert into a hooker.

well this season has certainly gone down the toilet.

I wouldn't throw McIlwrick in yet, he's not where near ready for first grade. Herbert or McCrone should be put at hooker for the time being.

That's bad news about Milne. He could almost miss the rest of the season.
