End of the day we'll have sponsors for round 1...and that is all that matters.
Will we? I thought the same for NYC that didn't happen. I hope so however in the meantime we have a shop in Westfields with huge overheads. Extra staff for the busy xmas period. Yet inside other then a few training shirts no new stuff.

It's a catch 22 the merchandise needs to click over so it needs to be open yet they can't release a blank jersey that hopefully is outdated in 3 months

Yes he does.

Different agendas...yes...but all journos have different ones.

And how do I have it out for Ritchie?...because I'm critical of two articles he has writen?

Its my fault he's written two BS articles in the space of a month? Hardly.... I'll call out crap journalism when I see it. Not my fault he's been on the receiving end twice in a month due to not basing his first article on facts and this second article just a space filler because he can't write anything positive about the game instead.

Woah, must be that time of the month, the mrs is in a foul mood too with her stuff..... Forget I asked.

I must have missed something Mick, what did Ritchie say in today's story that was crap?
I think the thing that surprised me most was that Gould was not at the conference.hopefully he was out signing new major sponsor!

His first article I criticised was full of crap.

Yesterday's article was just a stupid article, just filing the pages for the sake of it. Instead of going to find a story like a good journo he just wrote that because it was easy and a slow news day. I hate reading articles like that.

I know it's off topic, but can people please stop saying that 'Sanyo' have stopped sponsorship of GWS. Look at GWS website, merchandise and there numerous media appearances, they now have 'Sanyo Solar' as a sponsor.

'Sanyo Solar' is still a branch of 'Sanyo' which is owned by Panasonic, but has maintained the Sanyo brand name. Therefor Panasonic have CHOSEN to continue sponsorship of GWS using the 'Sanyo Solar' brand.

It may be the decision of Panthers or it may be the decision of Panasonic, but no doubt a decision has been made to not have 'Sanyo Solar' replace 'Sanyo' as a Panthers sponsor.

BIG difference between major sponsorship and minor sponsorship. About $900k difference in fact.

Unless you'd prefer to have Sanyo Solar as a major sponsor only delivering $100k a year.

Firstly, I'm not saying 'Sanyo Solar' need to be out 'major' sponsor. There are plenty of other sponsorship opportunities at the club. They haven't taken any of those offers and walked away from the club altogether.

Secondly, I wouldn't call them minor sponsors of GWS. They're certainly behind Skoda on the pecking order, but they are very prominently seen on the massive amounts of media that GWS receive. I'm not up to speed on exact figures companies pay for sponsorship, but I'd suggest there wouldn't be the massive gap between Panthers main and GWS mid that you've put forward. Especially considering it was highly predictable that GWS would get this amount of media leading into there first year, with an media driven coach like Sheedy and only 1 other team to compete against for the AFL pages in Sydney newspapers.

Hey Spitty, I've done some digging today as I was interested and know a few guys at GWS who I went to uni with. From the ballpark information they could disclose the difference is still quite large.

You are right in that the first year investment is around $350k reverting back to $150-200k based on televised games in future years.

So while it isn't a $900k difference, it is still a considerable difference between a mid level sponsorship and high end.

The HUGE difference in AFL and NRL is in that major sponsorship money. Their management always manage multi-million dollar per year sponsorships for major sponsors. But for their mid-level sponsors they are usually the same level...but they just have more than them which means their total sponsorship dollars are greater.

I had a drink yesterday with someone who used to work for the club and was told that the overspend for the renovations to the licensed club were partly paid for by a $1million cut in funds to football. If true that explains a lot.

That's probably not to shy of the mark. There was an article earlier this year about how little the team had to spend on training facilities, equipment, medical etc. It forged a wedge between the the coaching staff and the management who then went on to provide a list of resources via the clubs website which further soured things.

The budget though has been opened up again though. Staffing and resources are following right through the grades which includes the purchase of the property for the juniors to live in - though there is debate as to who paid for it - Gould himself or the club.

Can't imagine Gus (or any other CEO) stumping up at least half a mill of his own. Might actually be some kind of long term arrangement with Tony Ferguson who owned it.Given the lack of info coming out of the club since Andrew Farrell left its hard to say.
