Some Rumours:

Redskins to trade up for Gabbert?

NFL Network both report the Redskins are interested in trading up to the No. 2 spot to land a top quarterback.

It was first reported two weeks ago that the Redskins were "trying like crazy" to deal up. LaCanfora suspects the Redskins could land Mizzou QB Blaine Gabbert by staying put, but has spoken with several GMs who believe they will move up to ensure that they get their man. GM Bruce Allen would have to surrender the majority of his picks to move up eight spots.

Pouncey Brothers Reunion?

NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora reports the Steelers will "exhaust all realistic possible scenarios" to trade up for Florida OG Mike Pouncey.
Coach Mike Tomlin has reportedly handed down an "edict" for the personnel department to make it happen if Pouncey "starts to slip" in the second-half of the first round.

Under that scenario, the Steelers would likely begin to work the phones for a Pouncey Brothers reunion if Mike drops past the Dolphins (No. 15) and the Giants (No. 19). LaCanfora suggests the most sensible trade would be with Tampa Bay for the No. 20 pick, as Tomlin and Bucs coach Raheem Morris are tight.

Falcons To Trade Into Top 10?

SI.com's Peter King reports the Falcons are attempting to trade into the top-10 for a shot at "explosive outside threats" A.J. Green and Julio Jones.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution suggested a month ago that GM Thomas Dimitroff would knock on the Browns' door at No. 6 if Green was still on the board.

King considers the deal a longshot, however, presumably because there's too much ground to cover between the Falcons' No. 27 pick and the top-10. It's no surprise that a smart GM like Dimitroff would see a contending roster with several key players aging, and aggressively target a difference-maker as the missing ingredient.

Dalton could go as high as #8

According to NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora, TCU QB Andy Dalton is the quarterback "generating the most late buzz," and he could go as high as No. 8 overall.

The Titans reportedly consider Dalton "an elite prospect who carries less
of the varied risk" of other QBs in the draft. One source tells LaCanfora that the Titans' offensive coaches are pushing for Dalton while the defensive staff loves Auburn DT Nick Fairley.

Dalton is becoming an interesting test case with three reliable, high-profile NFL insiders suggesting he's a lead-pipe lock for the first round while film wonks continue to cast skepticism on his NFL future.

Houston, Ballard failed combine drug test

Georgia outside linebacker/defensive end Justin Houston and Iowa defensive lineman Christian Ballard failed drug tests at the scouting combine in Indianapolis in February, according to a report by FOXSports.com.

Houston is a converted defensive end who registered 10 sacks as a junior in a pass-rushing role created for him by the Bulldogs' defensive staff, and he jumped on the opportunity to leave Georgia after his junior season. He has been considered a late-first or second-round draft value and is the No. 44-rated player overall by NFLDraftScout.com.

Houston has been an intriguing prospect for 3-4 teams because he already has a season of experience rushing off the edge, compared to most converted defensive ends who need to make a completely new transition to the role in the NFL. However, he's also considered a one-trick pony who is more athlete than football player at this point and might lack the explosiveness to develop into an elite pass rusher in the NFL.

Ballard has been projected as a second-round pick and is the 59th-rated prospect by NFLDraftScout.com, including the 10th-rated player in a very deep defensive end class. He has experience inside and outside and plays with explosion and hustle. A tight end when he arrived at Iowa, Ballard is excellent in one-on-one drills but struggles to make impact plays once the whistle blows.

Neither player has any previous records involving marijuana, according to the FOXSports.com report. If the reports of a failed drug test are true, it could significantly impact both players, who were already entering the draft fighting the dreaded 'tweener label as excellent athletes who might lack an ideal position in the NFL.

houston is busts-ville anyways imo

i think this draft more than any before in my time as an NFL has a real feel of uncertainity, it seems there are a lot of good players and not many brilliant ones here which makes mocks harder to pick...

and with FA and trades locked out no teams had a chance to really fill needs, nor do they even really know what they are because they have no idea how FA will play out and how many of their guys will wind up free agents

its going to be very interesting and i think we'll see a lot of wheeling and dealing.

Houston is high on my bust-ville as well

same as Brooks Reed. If he didn't have Clay Matthews hair noone would give a shit.

But I've got about 12-15 DE's with first round potential...this is the best defensive class I've seen.

I'd be careful about stuff said around now, generally clubs are trying to pull teams into making moves which favour them. I'd be surprised if any of this came to fruition.
