Some Rumours:
Redskins to trade up for Gabbert?
NFL Network both report the Redskins are interested in trading up to the No. 2 spot to land a top quarterback.
It was first reported two weeks ago that the Redskins were "trying like crazy" to deal up. LaCanfora suspects the Redskins could land Mizzou QB Blaine Gabbert by staying put, but has spoken with several GMs who believe they will move up to ensure that they get their man. GM Bruce Allen would have to surrender the majority of his picks to move up eight spots.
Pouncey Brothers Reunion?
NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora reports the Steelers will "exhaust all realistic possible scenarios" to trade up for Florida OG Mike Pouncey.
Coach Mike Tomlin has reportedly handed down an "edict" for the personnel department to make it happen if Pouncey "starts to slip" in the second-half of the first round.
Under that scenario, the Steelers would likely begin to work the phones for a Pouncey Brothers reunion if Mike drops past the Dolphins (No. 15) and the Giants (No. 19). LaCanfora suggests the most sensible trade would be with Tampa Bay for the No. 20 pick, as Tomlin and Bucs coach Raheem Morris are tight.
Falcons To Trade Into Top 10?
SI.com's Peter King reports the Falcons are attempting to trade into the top-10 for a shot at "explosive outside threats" A.J. Green and Julio Jones.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution suggested a month ago that GM Thomas Dimitroff would knock on the Browns' door at No. 6 if Green was still on the board.
King considers the deal a longshot, however, presumably because there's too much ground to cover between the Falcons' No. 27 pick and the top-10. It's no surprise that a smart GM like Dimitroff would see a contending roster with several key players aging, and aggressively target a difference-maker as the missing ingredient.
Dalton could go as high as #8
According to NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora, TCU QB Andy Dalton is the quarterback "generating the most late buzz," and he could go as high as No. 8 overall.
The Titans reportedly consider Dalton "an elite prospect who carries less
of the varied risk" of other QBs in the draft. One source tells LaCanfora that the Titans' offensive coaches are pushing for Dalton while the defensive staff loves Auburn DT Nick Fairley.
Dalton is becoming an interesting test case with three reliable, high-profile NFL insiders suggesting he's a lead-pipe lock for the first round while film wonks continue to cast skepticism on his NFL future.
