2012 and beyond

Looking at our roster for 2012, things look like they will only improve. With the addition of a genuine half, and strike power out wide, hopefully we will win a few more then in 2011.

One real concern would be if there are any emotional scars going into 2012, after some very heartbreaking loses this year.

My question to all you footy gurus out there is how does SK get the boys 'up' in 2012?????

Does he try and forget about the pain of heartbreaking loses in 2011, or does he use the pain to motivate the players for the coming season?????

Also, does anyone think the results of this year would contribute to a poor 2012?????

Thoughts.

Kearney doesn't seem to be big on using emotion as a motivator, which is very much in line with modern sports psychology.

Revenge and other poor motivators breed inconsistency and should stay in the past where they belong.

If we hear any stories about the 'toughest pre-season ever' we are screwed.

And no, 2011 will have no bearing on 2012 motivation or results. The same applies week to week. That is, unless the team is told that it is just a building year.

If that happens again. Just cancel foxtel.

There was talks last year of confusion, some players trying to defend a lead and some trying to play football. Winning is often a confidence thing and our players forgot how to win but in the last game when it mattered they stood up and proved to themselves they could win and go on with it.

With the acquisition of Sandow and Tonga hopefully they can add some direction in the trend of games and improve our style when the games become tight. I think if we start well, confidence will grow and we will be better in the tight matches but I worry that we may struggle early with tight games and blow some leads.

how do any of us know what he does for motivation? .... all we see is press conferences - who says they are anything like motivational speeches? ... he might be emotional - who knows?

With the squad we had we nearly knocked off all the top teams and lost by less than a try. With the extra players coming on board, we will get that extra try we need so i think the boys will be very confident.

i agree i dont think you can really compare the two sides with so many players leaving and new players coming in the team will be totally different (and so will the results i hope :D)

We need an onfield leader to guide us home. Hayne is a great player but lacks this ability, Hindmarsh doesn't have it either. That is what Brisbane got out of Lockyer and what is so special about Cherry Evans and Foran and to a lesser extent Maloney.

We had a few young guys that didn't know what to do and a few older guys that don't know how to close out a game. Everyone was looking to someone else to guide them around. I don't think Sandow or Roberts have that in them either.

It helped we were playing the Titans. Even in that game we conceded the last two tries.

We see his reaction in the coaching box and we see him when they cut to inside the dressing rooms in TV before the games and at halftime. I think Poupou is spot on here.

a positive thing for the team for 2012 is that we will have players playing in their actual positions

Hayne at Fullback , Smith and Horo back in the forwards
aswell as having actual halves in Sandow and Roberst and a true centre in W Tonga

personally think this will help the team more then playing the guessing game of where they will be a day or so before the game

Just because SK keep the fan guessing hardly means the players didn't know what was going on. We lacked a players to stand up (or rather have the confidence to stand up) when they were needed, Hayne is great but he was trying to learn a position win games. I felt a lot of the time he was going against his instinct and trying to provide first then run second.

Next year Sandow will be here and he has been the kind of player to kick a 40/20 or make a special run when the game is tight. We will also have guys like Tonga and Hayne calling for the ball as genuine strike weapons (rather then provider) out wide. I have a feeling we will explode out of the blocks next year and end up around 3rd to 4th.

The Law of the Jungle
by Rudyard Kipling

Now this is the Law of the Jungle --
as old and as true as the sky;
And the Wolf that shall keep it may prosper,
but the Wolf that shall break it must die.

As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk
the Law runneth forward and back --
For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf,
and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.

Wash daily from nose-tip to tail-tip;
drink deeply, but never too deep;
And remember the night is for hunting,
and forget not the day is for sleep.

The Jackal may follow the Tiger,
but, Cub, when thy whiskers are grown,
Remember the Wolf is a Hunter --
go forth and get food of thine own.

Keep peace withe Lords of the Jungle --
the Tiger, the Panther, and Bear.
And trouble not Hathi the Silent,
and mock not the Boar in his lair.

When Pack meets with Pack in the Jungle,
and neither will go from the trail,
Lie down till the leaders have spoken --
it may be fair words shall prevail.

When ye fight with a Wolf of the Pack,
ye must fight him alone and afar,
Lest others take part in the quarrel,
and the Pack be diminished by war.

The Lair of the Wolf is his refuge,
and where he has made him his home,
Not even the Head Wolf may enter,
not even the Council may come.

The Lair of the Wolf is his refuge,
but where he has digged it too plain,
The Council shall send him a message,
and so he shall change it again.

If ye kill before midnight, be silent,
and wake not the woods with your bay,
Lest ye frighten the deer from the crop,
and your brothers go empty away.

Ye may kill for yourselves, and your mates,
and your cubs as they need, and ye can;
But kill not for pleasure of killing,
and seven times never kill Man!

If ye plunder his Kill from a weaker,
devour not all in thy pride;
Pack-Right is the right of the meanest;
so leave him the head and the hide.

The Kill of the Pack is the meat of the Pack.
Ye must eat where it lies;
And no one may carry away of that meat to his lair,
or he dies.

The Kill of the Wolf is the meat of the Wolf.
He may do what he will;
But, till he has given permission,
the Pack may not eat of that Kill.

Cub-Right is the right of the Yearling.
From all of his Pack he may claim
Full-gorge when the killer has eaten;
and none may refuse him the same.

Lair-Right is the right of the Mother.
From all of her year she may claim
One haunch of each kill for her litter,
and none may deny her the same.

Cave-Right is the right of the Father --
to hunt by himself for his own:
He is freed of all calls to the Pack;
he is judged by the Council alone.

Because of his age and his cunning,
because of his gripe and his paw,
In all that the Law leaveth open,
the word of your Head Wolf is Law.

Now these are the Laws of the Jungle,
and many and mighty are they;
But the head and the hoof of the Law
and the haunch and the hump is -- Obey!

Also don't discard Benny Roberts, he will be very keen to prove he is a NRL player. And he is the type of player that while isn't suited to being the sides number one play maker, is a very good attacking player - with the focus on Hayne, Sandow and Tonga by the opposition, Roberts may just get that little bit of extra space in attack.
