We seem to be very quiet on the recruitment front. I'm convinced the halves combo must be settled as Henry was available and it seems we didn't make a play at him. And with props like fifita, Gibbs and Jon green apparently on the move we don't seem to have a look in for any of these blokes either. So I'm guessing we are fairly settled on next years roster.

glad we are not being mentioned that much and that we are not going after every tom dick and harry.
I would like to think we have our eyes on the best of Toyota cup players . We need some real star power in the backline to complement a potential great pack. Just one or two special picks from Toyota cup competition , players who could pop into rep calculations like some of the young guns this year e.g. Hoppa , Yow yew etc either the best young winger , centre , fullback or 5/8. i would resign Ross if he continues with current form as he will only getting stronger and more confident for next year , if balance of year is injury free. We need to go for a quality half ( ?) or else work our current roster potential from Roberts , Reynolds or webster.

for next year my views

Fullback - Inglis or Merrit or Roberts , Best of Toyota cup comp( wesser gone)
Wingers - Merrit , Mcqueen , Roberts , Morgan , Mansour ,talanoa
Centre - Farrell , Sutton , corrigan , Best of Toyota cup , Inglis
5/8 - mundine , sutton , inglis , BEST of TOYota cup
half - Roberts , Reynolds , webster , experienced ??
lock - lowe , tyrrell , Jason
second rowers - taylor , sam , Eddie , Crocker
props Ross , George , Geddes , ROy , Shannon plus ONE more BIG hard head or Best of Toyota cup??
hookers Luke and Peats

I think either one of Nathan Peats or James Roberts could develop into a much better half then John Sutton. It's highly anticipated that Maguire will bring another half with him also.

I think regardless of whether Inglis is shifted from Centre, we are still short of centre's and Maguire must attend to this. But Fullback is the go for him definitely. GI is more of a power runner and support play, while Roberts is probably more agile with gi and has more crafty ball skills imo.

If we wanted to save some cap. I'd have Peats at 6 and Roberts as 7. We have GI or Sutton who who could slot into five-eighth, with Peats equally capable to fill half along with Reynolds or webster.

rangi chase should be approached.
He is much better player than sandow & sutton.

Can play 6 or 7.

He plays for an average team in ESL but still one of top players in the league.
He absolutely carved up england on the weekend and got mom in the intnernational origin match.

Rangi chase wouldn't ask for too much money either.
my theory at the moment is souths are leving there wallet in their pocket waiting for the new tv deal to go through.
this will give them more money too throw at a top class half maybe someone like quade cooper or another player looking to make it in the NRL.
if the rumours are true the new deal will mean that the cap will be in the $7m mark and have 30 players under the cap.
this will be good for added depth which is what souths lack at the moment

Puzzles me why the club didn't make any approach to Beau Henry.

It seems Maguire has a few cards up his sleeve we are yet to see. It will be interesting to see what develops in the months leading up to his commencement in the role.

Taylor, Inglis, Roy & Burgess eating half your cap has ensured you wont be having anything remotely resembling depth anytime soon.

We need to look at our 1-6-7 for next year because Issac Luke cant bring structure to the team on his own & we really need to concentrate on these vital positions if we are going to be a potential Top 4 side.
Merrit, Taylor, Roberts, Farrell, Ingliss & Burgess will all benefit from having less responsibility so they can play to their talents without having to make up for our lack of attacking structure.

you have some good points 'thehattrickrabbit' i think juggling a few of our young fellas around as you suggested may possibly uncover and evolve a good combination somewhere?

fancy a 3rd burgess?

eldest brother luke burgess,24, has had his request for a release from his leeds contract granted

http://www.loverugbyleague.com/news_5816-cross-and-burgess-request-release.html

Him coming to Souths has always been on the cards and it looks even more likely now. I am pretty sure he already owns some property in Sydney.
Not sure he is what we need tho, he cant even make the team at Leeds and i dont think he has ever played for England. If he carried any other surname i dont think we'd even be looking at him.

Hey guys, don't take my word as gospel. but just remember back a couple of years back when i had the inside word on manuakafoa going to the cowboys like 3months before he left.

I've been hearing some rather loud whisperings that we may have signed reynolds from the bulldogs, one would assume to take the halfback role next season?

Yep spot on Baron, any signings will be determined by how close to the cap we are.

Need a fullback unless Merritt or Roberts move there with Talanoa, Morgan, Mansour and McQueen to the wings

Halfback - Even if Reynolds cements the position we still need depth

Props - A few of them, We should sign Ross he is going hard

I don't expect many big signings for 2012 but you never know who Maguire may bring with him
