So what changes are we going to see in 2013 for the NSW Cup ?

Seems that we will only have one Wests Tigers team

Judging by the thread name, the entire competition is relocating to become The South Wales Cup... ;)

Doubt there will be any changes in 2013 outside of the Tigers fielding their own side in Reserve Grade.

Wests Tigers have proposed a unified NSW Cup team though this still has to be approved by Wests Magpies members. A group at the Magpies are pushing for Wests Ashfield to again fund a NSW Cup team though it seems a combined Tigers outfit is likely.

Melbourne have indicated their support for a feeder arrangement with the Albury Thunder (formerly Lavington Panthers) which would come into operation in 2014 if successful. I imagine the clubs current arrangement with Cronulla will continue in 2013.

And regarding the Bundy Cup theres a few rumours going around. Wests Magpies may enter teams if their NSW Cup Application is unsuccessful whilst the North West Wolves from Melbourne have expressed interest.
All current clubs have indicated they will return in 2013 though some have expressed concerns of the strength of weaker clubs ie. Kingsgrove who could be relegated to the Sydney Shield.

The Shield Comp itself looks like improving next season with Blacktown, Kingsgrove and Burwood expressing interest in entering teams.

That would make Wenty unbeatable in Bundy. For the last 4? years Wenty have recruited 7 or 8 players for NSW Cup that in previous years would have played Bundy. So if parra go back to standalone they will fill their side up with boys and Wenty Bundy will be awesome.

Sounds like some positive changes for all competitions.

I hope Western Suburbs Magpies find a way to compete in NSW Cup again next year. If they drop out then it will be much harder to get back in.

The only club big enough in the Shire comp for Bundy Cup I can think of would be Cronulla-Caringbah.

Cronulla Caringbah were accepted into the comp in 2008 but were gone before the season started when they realised they did not have the money.

A guy who owned a boutique brewery took over the team and named them Southern Sharks. The following season they merged with Southern Districts RU and then dropped out in the following year. David Peachey, Terrence Sue Sue, Tim Weyman and Atelea Vea played for the sharks or SD, with all but Peachey appearing in both NRL and Bundy in the same season.

Heard the same rumour that Wenty are being punted from Parramatta, however Wenty are very determined to keep a side in the NSW Cup with Melbourne looking to use Wenty as a NSW Cup feeder team as they are not overly keen on the current set-up sharing with the Sharks.

Nothing has to be approved by the Wests Magpies Members. There WILL be a Wests Tigers State Cup team in the NSW Cup in 2013, the question is whether Wests Magpies will enter a team (which isn't going to happen since they withdrew their application for a team). If they did try to enter a team it would be a complete farce, and show just how much the Wests Magpies support the Joint Venture.

They have a few decent players - Jamie Small, Adam Schubert, Pee Wee Moke, Ryan Millard, Justin Wood and a few others that have played Bundy.

Millard only played a few games early on...he then went to Parkes and played....

It will be interesting to see as they currently dont pay their players so if that continues will the beable to recruit or become another Kingsgrove Colts who dont pay their players and it shows with on field results...

Kingsgrove dont have to pay as most of the team are in the Roosters NYC squad so they get whatever the Roosters pay them for the season.

THE Newcastle Rugby League appears certain to be reduced to a nine-team competition after Wyong Roos revealed yesterday their intention to play in the NSW Cup next year.

The Roos, who entered the Newcastle competition in 2003 and won the premiership in 2009, have been negotiating with the NSW Rugby League and Country Rugby League about switching to the NSW Cup, which is effectively the National Rugby League's reserve-grade competition.

Unlike most teams in the NSW Cup, who act as feeder outfits for NRL clubs, Wyong are confident they can compete at that level as a stand-alone entity.

Wyong coach Paul Stringer, who will be at the helm of the Roos again next season, told the Newcastle Herald yesterday the club's administration had resolved to field a team at the highest level available.

"That's the sole and only reason why we're doing it," he said. "We have seven [licensed] clubs in the group, and we're unique in that we're a football club, not a leagues club," he said.

"So it's all about football and our board of directors have a vision of Wyong football club playing in the best possible competition.

"At the time they entered the Newcastle competition, they thought that was the best standard they could aim for.

"But a door has opened up to play in a new competition, the next level down from the National Rugby League, and we've put in an application and hopefully we'll be accepted into it."

Stringer was confident Wyong, who finished a disappointing seventh in the Newcastle competition last season, would have the financial resources to be competitive in the NSW Cup.

"Put it this way, we've got a pretty healthy budget to go in and sign players with," he said "We're not going in to be easybeats."

Stringer said Wyong had considered the option of fielding a second-tier team in Newcastle first grade but felt they would not have the depth of talent.

Instead their lower grades and juniors with play in the Central Coast competition.

Newcastle Rugby League chairman Trevor Crow said Wyong officials had expressed frustration with the $160,000 salary cap and points.

Crow said it would be disappointing to lose any club from their ranks.

"It wouldn't be anyone's fault," Crow said. "It's Wyong's decision, but I certainly wouldn't want to be a chairman who delivers a nine-team or eight-team comp.

"It certainly portrays a sign of weakness if we have teams not wanting to play in this competition."

CRL chief executive Terry Quinn said yesterday he would meet with Wyong officials next week but was resigned to accepting their defection.

"They just have to get endorsement from us, and I haven't spoken to any of my executive about it," Quinn said yesterday. "I don't think they'll be stopped from playing in the NSW Cup, but they'll asked be to fulfil their commitments to the CRL."

Quinn said the CRL would seek assurances that Wyong's lower-grade and junior players would be accommodated, most likely in the Central Coast competition.

"It's going to be a tough call playing in the NSW Cup, without a feeder body to call on, but they think they can do it and stand alone," he said.

"It's a big call, because Wests [Magpies] were a stand-alone club this year and didn't win a game."

NSW Rugby League chief executive Geoff Carr said the governing body were receptive to including Wyong in the NSW Cup.

"If they meet the criteria, which they will do I guess, we'd encourage them."

No sure. With most clubs playing their better u20's in state cup, there is a real possibility that the state cup will end up with a higher profile than the U20's. That is my opinion only as i think watching a 20's game is not as enjoyable as watching a state cup game.

Can't believe Wyong are going enter a stand alone side in the NSW Cup and think they'll be competitive...???? Sure they're cashed up, but what sort of players can they attract without a clear pathway to NRL?

Common sense would say start off in BRC?
