Exactly. There's a system; a structure; a discipline. This is a big reason why England fail, because they don't have that.

Bingo. For all their resources, they have failed to address properly their pathways. For instance, the English Messi might be out there but due to his size and the actual preference of physicality over technical skills in junior systems he would have never had the chance to develop his skills in a decent academy.

He is Adidas' highest profile star and the golden ball was sponsered by Adidas. Says it all.

Muller, Robben and Rodriguez were all better in my opinion.

That's a good point.

I'm not saying Messi had a bad tournament, but I don't think he was the best player at this WC

As good as he is in general, there is no way in hell Messi was the best player in the tournament.
Might squeeze in the top five at best.

Their problems run much deeper than Roy Hodgson, that's for sure.

Germany benefit from the fact that their football system is just a reflection of how their society works. They're a great country- 70 years after being a total bombshell of a country, they're a powerhouse pulling everyone's weight in Europe. You'd probably know that key notions of the German psyche are perfectionism and discipline. So it's no wonder that: a) their football institution has developed their own effective form of style and development, and b) all of their players are disciplined enough to fit into seamlessly

Great WC final but Germany had a bit of luck on their side. Argentina certainly missed some chances. Higuain will be having nightmares for years after missing a one on one chance with the goal keeper and then scoring from off side. Not sure why Lavezzi came off so early, he was the only one who was creating chances outside of Messi. Aguero was poor and didn't gel with the rest of the side at all.

Germany were deserved winners and have probably been the most exciting team in the world for the last 8 or so years now.

Did everyone watch Argentina's games? Messi set up pretty much every play for them....with 2 or 3 defenders hanging off him.

Hilarious. I just read an article on goal.com from early in the week naming their team of the tourney. The headline says 5 German players named in the team. They put each in the colours of their playing strip. The problem is, they include Arjen Robben as one of them, even put him in a German shirt. Massive fail!
