No doubt that it would have cost them $ providing HD. They had a viewing audience of 3.9M and in advertising revenue terms, they would get paid far more from KFC out to 3.9M on SD, rather than (for example_ 2M in SD and 1.9M in HD.

The problem then is, that CH9 will not cross over until such time that the NRL force them or until the SD channels begin to rate lower or are switched off.

Meanwhile Foxtel are increasing their HD chanels from Nov3 (will have 5 HD sports channels + Foxsports News in HD).

It's not the cost in providing the vision as they use HD gear, it's the loss in ad revenue.

I watched the two Preliminary Finals down in Melbourne last week and because they were on GEM - they were in HD. Amazing - Victorians get the game live in HD - we don't.
