Some of those picks are going to be instant contributors. This is is a seriously deep draft. I reckon a 4th rounder this year is comparable with a early 3rd in previous years

So apparently Atlanta have expressed a desire to trade up in the draft, would the Rams be interested?

Absolutely they will be. They can definitely get their guy @ 6.
Dont think they'll get the kings randsom they got for RG3 though, might pick up an extra 3-5th round pick

The big decision for the Falcons will be what they move up for.... Obviously at 2 you'd likely get Clowney... Which is who they want...

But this draft is deep... Giving up a late pick would need to be worth it.

And considering that most Mocks have them picking up Khalil Mack at 6.... As much as I love Clowney... Mack at and keeping your late round pick in this deep draft is something to be considered seriously IMO.

I'm really warming to taking Terrence West in the third round, that kid has a big time future IMO

This draft is so deep at WR it's ridiculous, for example I think a guy like Josh Huff would be bordering on 1st round status in most other drafts

Garrett Gilbert's strong pro day will boost NFL draft stock

DALLAS -- Sometimes, even this deep into the NFL draft process, a prospect rises from seemingly out of nowhere. For me, that prospect this year is SMU quarterback Garrett Gilbert.

Now, I liked Gilbert before his pro day on Friday at SMU -- thought he was an underrated player who should have been invited to the NFL Scouting Combine in February. But his pro-day performance confirmed my thoughts.

In front of three NFL quarterback coaches (Bill Musgrave of the Eagles, Wade Wilson of the Cowboys and the Ravens' Rick Dennison) and representatives from 22 different NFL teams, Garrett completed 87 of 88 passes, and would have completed them all if he had Calvin Johnson catching the back-shoulder fade that hit the ground.

He looks like a bigger version of his father Gale, who played 11 seasons in the NFL (Gale remains the only player to play on five straight Super Bowl teams) with the Seahawks, Bills and Chargers. Garrett Gilbert measured 6-foot-3 7/8 on Friday and weighed 221 pounds. He ran the 40 in 4.81 and 4.83 seconds, had a 29.5-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot-9 broad jump, ran the short shuttle in 4.43 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.30 seconds.

It was a performance that will get him a lot of attention between now and the draft. Gilbert told me he has visits lined up already with the Panthers and Buccaneers. Expect that list to grow.

When all is said and done, I think he'll end up being a mid-round draft pick, maybe even as early as the third round.

One NFL scout at the workout, who was also at Brett Smith's pro day at Wyoming two weeks ago, told me he views Gilbert as a much better prospect than Smith. Many people thought Smith should have been invited to the combine.

Speaking of the combine, I thought Gilbert's workout was better than half of those who were in Indianapolis last month. He has good accuracy, very good velocity, and is a great athlete with NFL size.

A couple of things you have to remember about Gilbert, and perhaps a reason he has flown so far under the radar:

» 1. Despite not having a whole lot to work with at SMU, he had success. Only three other quarterbacks in the nation averaged more passing yards last year than him (one of them was Fresno State's Derek Carr), and in one five-game stretch in the second half of the season he threw for more than 2,000 yards and totaled 17 touchdowns with just one interception. He missed the final two games with a knee injury.

» 2. Gilbert was a five-star recruit at Texas, where he had a lackluster career, to say the least. He graduated in three years and transferred to SMU in 2012, hoping to resurrect his career under June Jones. There might not be a better quarterbacks coach than Jones, who has played or coached the position in college and the NFL since 1971. Thanks to Jones, Gilbert is a different quarterback than he was at Texas, and Jones believes he'll only get better in the NFL.

I think think so, too. He'll surprise people with where some team takes him in the draft, and he'll surprise even more with his NFL production.

Johnny Manziels Pro Day

The Positive

Other than some mild criticism that former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel's pro day Thursday was too "choreographed", most scouts and coaches who attended came away impressed by Johnny Football's showing.

Count Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson among them.

Said Wilson: “He played under center on all the throws. He showed movement throws, he showed drop-back throws, quicks, and he threw the ball all over the field. So I was very impressed. He was very accurate and had plenty of velocity on the throws, as well.

“I saw him at the Combine, where he didn’t throw, so this is my first time to really see him throw in person – just wanted to see his arm strength. He has plenty of arm strength to play, no question about that.”

Jacksonville’s Gus Bradley and Tampa Bay’s Lovie Smith saw a different workout than Zimmer.

“The atmosphere and everything that was involved and then to come out and perform like he did, that was great,” Bradley said. “I think that’s no different than how he’s performed all year, right? Perform under pressure.

Felt like more of a pressurized environment with a lot of eyes watching him and he did a great job.”

Smith was equally complimentary.

“Pretty much like I thought he would do. He’s been a great player for a long time,” Smith said. “The guy’s a football player. He can do it all. That’s impressive. Most guys come out in T-shirts and you don’t play in T-shirts, so coming out made a statement throwing it in pads. Accurate. Great mobility. Then, he has great video. There are a lot of things to like about him.”

The Negative

COLLEGE STATION — NFL coaches and analysts mostly raved about Johnny Manziel’s pro day Thursday.

There was a dissenting voice, though.

Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said Manziel’s workout was “choreographed” and placed too much emphasis on style instead of substance.

“The huddles and the different things and the music. The sideshow stuff,” Zimmer said. “It was a sideshow.”

Zimmer added that Manziel’s decision to wear shoulder pads and a helmet during his showcase was an odd one.

“It was a different workout,” Zimmer said. “It’s the first time I’ve ever seen it.”

He added: “This one was a little different in how it was choreographed.

People like that or they don’t like that, I don’t know.”

I'm not sure on Garret, when he took over from Colt in the NC he showed some real courage and touch but it all fell apart after that.
He's a confidence player.

I thought it was ridiculous, especially the 'Boom' after he threw the last pass.

I watched highlights of Clowney's pro day today, man that guy has some quick feet for a big man. His conditioning looked very good, I think he's a man on a mission

Gonna be tough for the Texans to pass on him but I think they will

I wouldnt
You're telling me as a GM i could pair Clowney with Watt and basically completely lock down the run game and make the passing game a f**king nightmare?
Dominate on defense, and get a game manager and you're winning the AFC... Seattle-esque

Clowney is a step above these QB's, take Clowney number 1, Trade for Mallet with a 3rd or 4th. If he fails then get Mariotta or Winston next year.

Then can take Clowney in Rnd 1 and probably get Derek Carr at the start of Rnd 2 who has plenty of potential.

I think it's almost certain that they'll take Clowney, unless they're stupid enough to place too much weight on a scripted Pro Day.
