I'm pretty new to all the pre-season shenanigans.

Is the Combine really that important? I mean, everybody has seen them play already. These just look like a bunch of stats to me.
I think your body of work at the collegiate level is probably the most important thing...

But I guess the scouts like having indicators to measure these guys against...

Some of them are more important than others...

It's the medicals and interviews that have the biggest impact at the combine, the stats just confirm what's being seen on tape, if a guy jumps out with amazing unexpected stats or doesn't live up to expectations it gives an indication that the scouts need to go have another look at the guy to see if they've overlooked something.

I've just had a good look at Kevin White... I always assumed Amari Cooper was head and shoulders the best receiver in the class so I never really contemplated the Raiders would draft elsewhere unless Williams dropped or we traded back...

I really like him... He has the thing that Cooper lacks... Size.

I think Cooper is the far smoother route runner... And I think he's more explosive off the line... But my biggest worry with him is that he becomes a slot guy in the NFL... Nothing wrong with being a slot guy...

But there's plenty of good value slot receivers you can pick up in FA.... using #4 in the draft seems wasteful... Maybe I'm being harsh... I dunno... I just can't see him taking the top off NFL defences like he did at Alabama.

Thoughts??

The interviews and medical matter a great deal, a prospect can drop rapidly if those things dont check out, and it matters if someones athletic ability doesnt match the tape, either good or bad. But if that's the case, you've just got to go back to the tape and double check what you saw.

But for the most part, good teams should have their boards pretty set by now and are just adjusting minorly

So the measurables dont really matter that much

I found the NFL Network programme 'Finding Giants' a great thing to watch to get your head around all the scouting work that goes on with creating a teams big board for a draft.

If you've got some time G-KD I reckon you might enjoy 'Finding Giants'.
