2015 Team

Very promising young backs coming through. We finally have the money to keep them as well. That is a first. Dane would be nice to keep as he is clearly a future rep player. His ability is never the issue. His commitment to us has to be 100% or else we run the risk of becoming a transit lounge. He may feel differently after 12 months under Stone.

A lot of people like to compare Gagai to Hodges.
Some posters like ChickenHunter may no see it.

I show you why he is compared to Hodges.
This is vintage Hodges from 2006, he was shifted from centre to fullback halfway through the year as the Hunt wasn't providing enough spark from fullback.
It proved to be a masterstroke by Bennett. The Broncos ended winning the premiership as a result of Hodges moving to fullback.

It starts at the 1.52
Beautiful to watch.

Now this is Gagai, compare that to Hodges.
It's identical.

Still not convince?
Here's Gagai again making the same Hodges arcing run
He even dishes it off like Hodges

Lol. Dane ran around Tim Mannah, 52 mins into the game. I'd say you'd be a chance to run around Mannah.

Agreed Dane is a special talent and beautiful to watch in full flight, he's a young man who will only get better. He will be a mainstay in the QLD side for many years to come. Lets hope he will stay in Newcastle and be a part of our exciting future.

True, you got me there. But it does it really matter who he ran around forward to begin with? What's the old chestnut? little men against tired forwards..

Ok there.. fair enough...
Who would you like to see Dane make a line break against?
How about the 2 current NSW State of Origin centres?

He's a good player, just needs to work on a few things, particularly his defence. It's not rocket science.

Happy to keep him if he wants to stay but we also need to lock up Sione. Don't know much about Pat, anyone who watches a lot of juniors shed some light? Also happy to hold onto Chanel if it means keeping Sione.

Gagai had a fantastic combo with Uate happening a couple of year ago. The talent is clearly there, his form is just down. Having said that, I've been very impressed with the workload he's picked up this year. It's definitely helped keep our forwards fresher.

Pat is the 2nd best of the brothers after Sione IMO. He's the biggest of the boys and is huge for an outside back (104kg), has decent speed and footwork. He and Chanel played a lot of their junior footy together being only one year apart in age and he was always better than Chanel despite being a year younger. I've got no doubt if he had had abit more luck with injuries the last few years he would've played 1st grade by now.

We need to definitely sign up Sione long term and throw everything at him. But do we need go nuts and sign up the other 3? Is the club thinking that the only way to keep Sione at the Knights is signing up all the brothers including Peter?

Nope, throw money at the kid. Reality is if they are good they cannot reside at one club. We need to get the silver bullet!

The worry is Pat with size and fact he gets hurt in his age ever going to make it in top grade? Problem with us is we see Em young but they rarely grow into their bodies!! If they do, a lot they get injured....

If they don't they are too small!

Pat is still a kid, hasn't even turned 21 yet, he's got plenty of time. In terms of injury he hasn't had any nasty ones like ACL, the worst he had was a stress fracture in his foot that kept him out most of 2012, but he's had a pretty good run this year and has been one of our best in nSW cup.

Having read a few articles about the boys, their upbringing, etc... I think our best chance to keep Sione is to keep as many of his brothers here as possible. At worst they'll be great depth, and at their best they could all be playing first grade together. It's not like we need to pay them all the same as Sione (unless they end up worth it, of course).

The 3 boys that are here all still live at home with their mum. All the money, I would wager, is going to go into the family. A package deal is the smartest thing we can do. I'm all for a package deal, and if bringing Pete home is an option (he's been getting better and better for the Dragons... his game last week was as good a centre performance as you'll see), then I'm all for it.

I've given up on following the ASADA drama...how long does it look like we'll be without Snowy and Jezza for? They're huge losses.

Hope that's the case. Just our luck though, for once a drug scandal wasn't our fault but we're still getting punished.
