2017 Crowd Watch

TV viewers will tell the story. The game had practically no decent marketing or hype behind it. The people running the game and the rugby league media are barely able to show any interest in it either (or even outright distain for international RL). Most fans seem to just view this as a week off from the NRL.

Can't blame fans for not being enthusiastic about the match when the people running the game make it seem like a nothing event.

People can keep blaming certain cities like Sydney for poor attendances but the problem stems from the people running the game and in general the people involved in the game.

1.381 Million on FTA nationally
not sure if it was on foxtel
don't think it was

still, it was the biggest Friday night RL match of the year to date.

if the governing body think this game is no loner relevant & remove it from the calander from next year
then why would the public think its relevant & support it
ontop of ridiculous ticket prices

you reap what you sow.

Im Sure that makes sense to a numpty like you. Was it an Anzac event or not? No one seemed to know. Nz had a poppy on the jersey, australia nothing. Armed service men on the field but no last call type event. Not on Anzac Day, in fact not even in same month. Only mention of Anzac was ch9 introducing it that way.

You have a group willing to pay costs?

Yeh out of the nrl's $340mill revenue that extra $50k would have hurt, Would it have cost much more given most of png side are based there? After all growing the interest for RLWC, creating a better viewing enjoyment and respecting the int game isn't worth the investment.

As a Canberra local, my thoughts on the crowd last night:
- There was no buzz around Canberra. I live and work few kms from GIO stadium and you would not know there is a game on. I only knew about the game because I follow RL media, Foxtel, LU, The Roar etc. I don't know if the teams did any local promotion.
- The prices were fairly expensive. We bought a family ticket in the cheap seats. Those seats were packed full and the more expensive seats in the next bay were empty. To me this indicates the game was too expensive. I had to pay for my 4 year old who gets in free at NRL games.
- The 8pm kick off deterred many. I took my 4 year old and 7 year old, although my wife wanted me to keep them home. I received a few comments from others indicating they left their kids at home with their wife as it was too late. The bus I get from our local club is usually full of families. There were only 2 other kids on our whole bus this time.

Good points:
- The weather was fine. Not too cold at all, no excuses there.
- The atmosphere around the stadium was great. The pre game band and presentations were well done and we got a photo with the World Cup. Lots of World Cup promos at the ground.
- The crowd was stacked so they faced the camera. The camera side (where we were) had several empty bays but they were mostly hidden from the broadcast.

Not to mention the sold out crowd of 20,000+ would more than make up for travel costs

Or the funds from the overpriced Aus v nz game yesterday lol

Isn't PNG the third world? How much are these 20,000 people going to pay for tickets?
