2017 RLWC - Non negotiables

For me, the non-negotiable elements for this tournament would be:

Final ANZ: I don't care about lazy Sydney-siders. This is the capital of RL. There needs to be 90k in attendance or it will be a considered a failure. Brisbane last time was a lazy cop out even though it got 50k. Let Suncorp have the opener and a semi.

Eden Park needs to be a SF Venue: NZ are going to be there so don't mess about (schedule it as NZ semi-final if through). I think Brisbane also makes sense for the other SF.

Games in all main states: Perth needs to have fixtures (an England one would be popular) as does SA (even if it is a low key one). Both Islands in NZ to host games. PNG home games at new stadium in PM also makes sense.

Venue and Tickets on sale during 2016 season: This tournament needs 500k plus attending to break the 2013 RLWC and this takes time and planning.

Would be nice:

For organisers to have the balls to open the tournament without Aus-NZ or Aus-Eng. If it is done right and marketed well then Australia v Fiji/Tonga/Samoa/Fra/Scot could still attract a full house to Suncorp with a big opening ceremony. It is called marketing a big event.

Doing that would ensure another massive crowd for a Aus-England pool game.

 Mate Sydney will always let RL down especially for Internationals in terms of crowd figures.

Final has to be Brisbane or Auckland both will pack out. 40to50k 100% Full looks way better than 20-30% filled seats of 90k in Sydney. It's embarrassing that even today Australians still think NRL and RL orbit around Sydney let alone think Origin is the Pinnacle

Final has to be in Sydney.

If the new SFS is done by then it'd be the perfect choice but honestly ~70K people at Stadium Australia is doable and would look amazing.

To me it is a question of economics...whatever will yield the biggest income generation should be chosen. While logic would dictate the bigger stadium of 83k capacity in ANZ, you may have to heavily discount tickets, something not required at Suncorp.

Queensland is the capital of Rugby League in Australia - I am born and bred in NSW but having lived in QLD for 2 years there is no doubt in my mind. Papua New Guinea is another level altogether.

Final at ANZ - Disagree. Open up a competitive bidding process (for every game including the final), whichever generates the most revenue and is likely to generate a good crowd should get it - whether it is Sydney, Brisbane, Auckland or even Melbourne.

Eden Park semi-final - Agreed. Again, subject to bidding, but NZ should host a semi-final. Schedule it similar to the Cricket World Cup - if NZ make it v a team other than Australia, they should play in it. If it's Australia v NZ, then the higher ranked team in the pool stages should get to host their semi.

Others - agree. Hope they open the tournament with Australia v Samoa and NZ v Tonga or Fiji. Save the big pool games for later!

There is no way an Infrastructure project like that would be ready in 2 years.
