6pm Friday is a dog of a time for most people
Everywhere
Works for Warriors home games and public holidays, that's about it.

Melbourne/Brisbane have stadiums close enough to the city to make 6pm a workable time, though I doubt we ever see a Broncos home game that early on a Friday night.

Penrith/Parra might have got 35k at ANZ given the excitement around Parra this year. I don't think Penrith should have to give up a home game but maybe hosting rights should have been reversed for this one.

Jt 300th, cowboys/sharks developing a decent rivalry should be great crowd. Saturday is Cowboys best time slot in particular for those who travel to the game.

Sorry, but no Penrith shouldn't have to. If it was their turn to host it, all the power to the Panthers.

How would you feel if it was a Roosters v Souths game at the SFS and people said it should be moved to ANZ?

In Round 5 it is reversed. Same timeslot so lets see what it pulls

Did you actually read what I said? I said Penrith shouldn't have to give it up nor am I advocating for a post draw re-schedule of the venue

Just pointing out that it could have done really well at ANZ given it is round 1.

What is the perfect Thursday night game and venue to start the year ?

New Parra v Dogs every year at the new Western stadium ..

Would guarantee 30k every year from next year

I really believe Parra v Dogs should be at ANZ on ANZAC day. 2.00 game followed by Dragons Roosters at 4.00 at Allianz.

Could you imagine the crowd that would get? I wouldn't miss it for the world. There would 50-60k there easy !

Take note NRL. There is method in Gould's whining.
Gus knows best.
This shows the fatal flaw in the business model of the NRL. They don't really care if Penrith, or Manly, Cronulla or Wests Tigers, get crowds of 22,000 or 2,000. It is the clubs, not the NRL, that need the crowds. But the clubs do not get to determine what matches they put on or when they are held. So if the NRL wanted to squeeze a club out of existence, or force them to move to an expansion area, or punish them for having a manager who is forthright, there doesn't appear to be much stopping them being able to do so. By denying a club its marquee home game they risk being seen to be doing just this.

One game would cannibalise the other, unless there is ample time to get from one venue to the other between games.

Penrith has always outdrawn Parramatta when these teams have clashed. Parra even took this game to Darwin a couple of seasons back, something the Panthers would never do.

I do get the impression the game on Sunday is bigger than the stadium it is being played at, though.

How many supporters would attend both games? Very few.

Parra did not want the game to go to Darwin - that was the NRL's fault because the draw did not allow Parra to take any other game and they have a contractual obligation to take one. The NRL ignored Parra's protests.

I'm starting to think we might go past 40k now, the areas that were already opened would of held approx 40k so if they can get a late rush on cheap seats we could be around 45k.
Been a bit of exposure today, the teams have done press conferences and there was even a story on Today Tonight about the game in WA, the weekends games and the possibility of a team over here . A mate took his wife to the casino tonight for her birthday and ended up watching the Bunnies doing a public appearance for an hour, and he's an AFL fan.

Still feel for the poor buggers who have paid overs for tickets though.

Do we know if Optus stadium will be using the rectangular configuration with drop in seats?

? Don't like the logic! Sell the fans all available seats at reasonable prices and you will get a big attendance . Playing games with customers isn't my way of treating fans with respect or decency. Its a shambolic and tardy approach to marketing that's transpiring in the ticket sales world!
Agree.
Here in Melbourne the MCG release a handful of bays at a time. So it could show that all Cat 2 seats are sold, then the next week they open more bays. Very frustrating. We don't buy tickets in advance any more - we just rock up. Storm do it much better - whole ground is generally available and you can chose.
Guns and Roses was the worst - diehard fans paid $199. Ticket sales were low and a month before the concert you could buy the same tickets for $49. Ended up a full house.

Will be interesting to see how the crowd goes in Perth. Souths v Warriors are the two best supported teams here by far so should draw the biggest crowd make up but the second game is in the better time slot so may see non Souths and Warriors fans arriving for second half of first game and staying for second. Hopefully most come from the beginning and stay until the end!

On a side note well done tot he NRLWA who have organised a "friends of league" game at the stadium this morning involving some ex players and the Minister for sport. Smart move to engage the Govt personally! Lets hope he hasn't broke his leg or anything lol

I hope so. Doesn't show it on the seat map particularly well but they may want to try it out for first time. Having said that the capacity wont be tested so the extra 5000 seats are not needed.

Most RL fans (and every RL club in Melbourne) are based in the outer suburbs - 6pm would be a disaster here. (AFL starts 7.50pm Friday and finishes 10.30pm).

It’d be better for atmosphere though. Seems like it won’t be happening if it doesn’t show on the seat map.
