well in fact cricket is the first thing played there , so neither the womens kick n giggle game or the NRL will be first technically & id doubt it will have any effect on the NRL crowd which should draw very well
I don't think the womens bumbleathon will get anywhere near it personally
but time will tell

Which cricket game?

I know CA were looking at playing a fixture there this summer but according to their schedule all Scorchers games as well as the ashes test and ODI is due to be played at the WACA.

ODI is not set in stone yet and the last report I heard was it will take some very major f**K ups in the final construction milestones for the ODI not to be played at the new stadium.

The ODI v England in January is definitely still TBC - I'd be surprised if it wasn't played at the New Perth Stadium.

isn't it thurston and slater's 300th game in round 1? surely cowboys v melbourne in townsville round 1 is the way to go

Melbs v Cowbs in Tvl is always a big game. Whilst I’d love to see that game kick off the season, Storm fans might be a bit angry they dont get to see the team run out at home for the first time that season. Might be better to give both teams home games against different opposition so both Slater and JT can celebrate their 300th in front of their home fans which will surely bring in extra punters and keep the storm/cowbs game for a later date. Tbh rd 1 would love to see the Cowbs play the Raiders again up there. Last years rd1 game was epic.

That was the Ashes Test that was ruled out of being at the new stadium.

The Macarthur region has been abandoned since the venture took over by Balmain ex-pats wanting to prolong the existence of the dying club. They've taken Wests for a ride and Wests Ashfield, like corporate lackeys, are willing to get reamed to make a quick $$$.

Ideally I'd prefer to see us split our fixtures as:

Campbelltown - 6
Western Sydney - 3
Leichhardt - 3

The Macarthur region has untapped potential that could bring into line as a competitive force. It's kinda why Wests moved out there in the 80's after the expulsion whilst at Ashfield.

At this rate the Tigers are going to be covering more regions than QLD.

They should align with the PNG Hunters just to make sure they snag the next Adrian Lam.

Excuse my knowledge of Sydney geography, where is the MacArthur region?

Why would they take MORE games to Campbelltown? The highest crowd there of the four games was 12.2k, average less than 10k. Only two matches have drawn 15k+ in the last five years and one of them was the Jarryd Hayne show last year.

If people aren't turning up there, surely the answer isn't to give them MORE games to not show up for (especially when you consider that WT have only ever played one match at ANZ that's attracted a sub-10k crowd).

Nice idea, but don't the Premiers get to host the first rematch?
Besides, I think both guys deserve their special occasion in front of their home crowds.

Maybe round 1 should have Cowboys v Broncos in Townsville and Storm v Warriors in Melbourne; both big rivalry games. That would mean that Storm/Warriors on ANZAC day would be a Warriors home game, but that's ok).

Cowbs v broncs rd 1 is a waste imo. Better to have a less popular team in Brisbane as rd 1 should drag some extra punters in because of the lack of footy for 4 months. Leave it for a few rounds later.

The game got off to a limping start last season with some pretty avg crowds in first rounds. You'd hope the first rounds are when fans are still full of hope that their team may do well.

Rd1 you'd hope for a broncos home game, the Perth double header will fudge it abit if we can get 30-40k to it, then get a decent match up Sunday afternoon at a decent sized Sydney stadium, maybe eels v Wests at anz.

If the GF stays on the long weekend it could be the first non DST grand final in a very long time.
