Interesting games - and will be interesting to see what line up Easts end up with. I dare say it will be quite different to the named list in some key positions.

Ooh cant wait for this weekend..

Easts v Ipswich - I dont know what to expect, as i guess most dont when Ipswich Jets are concerned.. A lot also depends on this patched up Easts side - but that East pack looks awesome.

Redcliffe have beaten Burleigh 13-6 tonight to advance to the grand final in a very scrappy and sloppy game of football. Both teams struggled to hold onto the ball on the wet field ( though there was next to no rain in the actual game) but Reddy did enough get the win.

Burleigh will have to do a lot better next week if they want to beat Easts who towelled up the Jets 50-20.

yes indeed.. Easts looked good, but then again with Ipswich its a bit of a roll of the dice.

The thing Im most impressed with Easts is the fluidity in attack - Josh Ralph (sadly overlooked up to last week) has been great. Again though noone knows what the Easts side will look like until they run out

Just for the record, Redcliffe and Easts have met four times before in Grand Finals for two wins each:

    1977: Eastern Suburbs 17 defeated Redcliffe 13
    1983: Eastern Suburbs 14 defeated Redcliffe 6
1997: Redcliffe 35 defeated Eastern Suburbs 6 (BRL Grand Final)
1997: Redcliffe 18 defeated Eastern Suburbs 16 (Queensland Cup Grand Final)

Redcliffe last won a Premiership in 2006 when they beat Toowoomba 27-6 in the GF.

They have lost three deciders since - to Tweed Heads (2007), Wynnum Manly (2012) and Burleigh (2016).

Easts last won a Premiership in 1991 when they beat Wests 25-10 in the Grand Final.

They have since lost eight Grand Finals:

1992: Western Suburbs 40 defeated Eastern Suburbs 10
1993: Western Suburbs 18 defeated Eastern Suburbs 12
    1995: Wynnum 32 defeated Eastern Suburbs 24
1997: Redcliffe 35 defeated Eastern Suburbs 6 (BRL)
1997: Redcliffe 18 defeated Eastern Suburbs 16 (Queensland Cup Grand Final)
2004: Burleigh 22 defeated Eastern Suburbs 18 (in extra time)
    2013: Mackay 27 defeated Eastern Suburbs 20
2014: Northern Pride 36 defeated Eastern Suburbs 4

The Tigers were the team I hoping to avoid but they were too good against Burleigh today.

We’re going have to be at our very best to win this one against a very strong opponent.

The week off didn’t do Redcliffe’s BRL side any favours today at Bashup with the Seagulls winning 28-20.

You're just 41 years too late:

    BRISBANE RUGBY LEAGUE GRAND FINAL

    1977

Easts took out the 1977 Brisbane premiership with a 17 ‑ 13 win over Redcliffe in a heart stopping Grand Final at Lang Park.

It was one of the best Grand Finals in years and it went off without any incidents which could bring the game into disrepute.

The game had everything to make it a thriller ‑ from crowd lifting attacking to shuddering, whole hearted front on tackling and a close goal kicking contest.

The game was watched by probably the best Grand Final crowd in three years ‑ estimated at 37 000.

Easts saw their dreams of a three grade Grand Final coup disappear when their third grade went down 14 - 22 to Wests. But their reserve grade team held on strongly to beat Souths 23 ‑ 16.

Officials and supporters of both teams agreed that the first grade match was won by a magnificent try two minutes after halftime by Easts lightning quick half, Wayne Lindenberg.

Easts had led by 12 ‑ 7 at half time from tries by winger, John Callus and centre, Steve Farquhar plus three goals by centre, Greg Holben.

Lindenberg, generally regarded as the man of the match, had taken part in a combined burst by Easts to within 30 metres of the Redcliffe tryline. He raced up to take over the dummy half spot then took off on his own with an electrifying burst to race clear of the ruck. He.weaved away from fullback Tony Obst and touched down for a great try.

That put Easts ahead by 15 ‑ 7 and was also the last try of the match. The remaining points all came from penalty goals by both sides.

Redcliffe's strong second rower Forrester Grayson produced the first try of the match with a searing burst through three tackles in a 30 metre charge at the line. That put Redcliffe in front 5 ‑ 2 but that was their last lead of the game.

Even though there was plenty of open play the defence from both teams was well planned and most effective.

SCORES : Easts 17 (John.Callus, Steve Farquhar, Wayne Lindenberg tries; Greg Holben 4 goals) d Redcliffe 13 (Forrester Grayson try; Ian Pearce 5 goals)

Reserve grade : Easts 23 (Russell Smith 2, Brad Sully, Mark Fyfe, Bernie Lowther tries; Howard Fullerton 4 goals) d Souths 16 (Barry Lynch, Brad Holland tries; Brian Turnbull 5 goals)

Third grade : Wests 22 (Kerry Cronan, Peter Eastwell, Peter Watterson, Paul Hodder tries; Bob Abel 5 goals) d Easts 14 (Wayne Dawson, Steve Bowerman tries; Ian McGuire 4 goals)

Easts' triumph in first grade was a fairytale finish to the season. After eight fixture matches of the season they were 1000 to one for the premiership after just one win. They won 10 of their last 11 games.

Steeling myself for another loss, as usually the case when we make another GF. The curse weighs very heavily.

But there is something a touch special about the way we are playing this finals series. Particularly the forward pack. Led by Albert Vete who was in rare form last Saturday, they are hunting as a pack and hungry. The amount of NRL experience seems a real advantage.

There is a sense that we have peaked at just the right moment. Blokes have just got to ride the wave, accept they will concede points but not be too perturbed. And then finish the match strongly. Timing and patience is the key.

I hope we can finally get the win. This club has waited their turn and suffered enough indignity.

Easts chances improved from the start of this year with the retirement of the last of a group of hotheads they had for years. Inevitably, one or other always cracked under pressure, contributing to their poor finals record.

They had Mackay done and dusted in 2013 until ill discipline crept in as usual, the following year the gooses lost it completely as Pride put them to the sword.

They were never going to win a premiership with any of them in the team.

2013 I’ll give you but that 2014 side was running up against guys who were a year or two away from dominating at Origin level.

Rumour Kotoni Staggs requires surgery and will not participate in the GF this week. Could be a smokescreen from Redcliffe insiders
