Cap hit is 20%, so you'll get $4800 cap space and the site will auto apply the $1200 as salary adjustment.

Roger Dodger has a 4 year contract for $10k, total cap hit is $8k ($2k for each year), the first $2k goes on this year's cap, the remaining $6k is applied to next year's cap.

I'll reset his salary this time, but it usually costs more to promote guys, leave your DS spots open if you're not 100% you'll keep them there, plenty of time to sort them out once free agency slows down.
