Biggest grand final choke since 2001? 17 wins in a row and not showing up for the big day.. it has to be up there
It was exactly like 2001. The better side dominated until the ref/refs got the other team back into the game.

You want to know how smug I am as a Panther's fan?

At 26-16, I was getting ready to call them the Melbourne Falcons.

Is that stat for real?
Correct.

The only 6 NRL Grand Finals that neither featured the Storm nor Roosters:

1998 (Brisbane vs Canterbury)
2001 (Parramatta vs Newcastle)
2005 (West Tigers vs North Queensland)
2011 (Manly vs NZ Warriors)
2014 (South Sydney vs Canterbury)
2015 (Brisbane vs North Queensland)

The actual point of the cap is to stop teams spending more than the NRL gives them. If we wanted to create parity then the NRL could do way more

Even still the storm team isn't all that suspect in 2020

Lol the news.com.au match report is something else.

“Penrith star Tyrone May has been slapped with a penalty try in a hugely controversial start to the 2020 NRL Grand Final.”

“The Panthers can claim to being unlucky...”

“Cleary showed his class by leading the Panthers in their late charge...”

Terrible English in the second quote. And what f**king game were they watching?

On paper this Storm side are not premiers material.
Cap has nothing to do with it.

I think Ivan made a massive mistake dropping Nadan out of the side.

I never bought the whole narrative that he was a liability. Plenty of centres let in tries. You don’t change a winning team over a handful of lapses.

Nadan was marking the attacking powerhouse in Brenko Lee.

The worst part is that the Storm were not even that great. They did what had to be done but we were our own worst enemy.

If Penrith turned up to play, they win. Instead we were left wanting.

The penalty try is a try every day of the week.

Mansour’s no try was debatable. Both Lee and Vunivalu committed to Crichton.

Kikau passing back into Kaufusi needed to be challenged. You’re down 16-0. Take a chance. Instead we let Leota piss that one away.

The leg pull penalty was trash.

The ten meter for both sides was non existent
Ruck was terribly slow.
Cams forward passes kill me.

It’s a game of what ifs and what could have been.
Great post. Sums things up pretty well. I thought we were f**ked relentlessly by the refs in the first half. That turned around in the second. If they kept their heads the game was there to be won.

I'd much rather the game is just officiated properly, the Kikau pass that was incorrectly called a knock on was a pretty much certain try, they square it up with the To'o try that was a deadset no try. It shouldn't be so hard.
