He’s already a much better hooker than Hunt. As a NSW and Eels fan I hope they continue to go down that path.

Why is this a good thing for Parra?

Obviously there's a downside in the potential to lose him for a few games, but there's plenty of upside as well.

The most obvious being that having players of that level is pretty helpful in the games they do play.

But where it would help most I reckon is with recruitment, players want to play in strong teams, and strong teams have Origin level players, even down to securing backups, because they almost know for certain they will get NRL game time.

Then of course there's the potential for how it can improve his game, big game experience is invaluable, and for young blokes like Reed just being in that environment gives him an opportunity to learn from a lot of blokes he'd not normally have the chance to.

Yeah we might drop a coupla games that we might have otherwise won, but on balance I don't think having a few origin players would hurt our chances at all of making the finals, and actually winning a few of them.

Its inevitable - If we make a habit of being a Top 5-ish team then some of our merkins will play origin. Overall, I think its a good thing for reasons Bandwagon outlined.

Personally I hope Reed doesnt play Origin in 2020. Let him play another full year at Parra, get more battle hardened and continue to improve. He is still very young. Let QLD trundle out Friend and Hunt off the bench. . NSW 2-1 and a Parra premiership I can live with that

I'd like to see him in the squad though for camp. Great experience for the guy, and a taste of what could be.

I wouldn't be unhappy for him to get picked. What you want is blokes who are good enough to play Origin. I'm not sure that them actually playing Origin helps the club that much on balance, but I accept the point that this might help attract players to the club in future.
