Nevermind the one-on-one strip, the brilliant catch-and-kick earning a repeat set, the offload setting up Moses and Tedecso before they fluffed it, and 38 tackles (most on field), a lot of them shutting down half breaks, with 0 misses.

What a strange take.
Yeah I thought Murray was very good. Incredible defence. He cut down anyone that came near him.

Well Mitchell Moses showed he does not belong at this level. Whilst I'm sure he was told to just guide the team around the park, his unforced errors and his complete lack of a running game hurt NSW last night. It made NSW's attack far too predictable.

As to Jack Wighton, he wasn't much better but at least he was willing to run the ball. That said his form is way down this year compared to last. In some respects he was lucky to be in this year's squad in my opinion as he almost looks like a shell of last year.
What a load of crap about Moses. So many parrots here with pre-conceived ideas who don’t know how to think for themselves. He was involved in two of the Blues tries and he kicked well off the back foot. How many opportunities was Cleary given before he became a dominant origin halfback?

Really? Let's see shall we.

So far Nathan Cleary has played in 10 Origin games. They are:

1. Game 1 2018 at the MCG - NSW def Qld 22-12;
2. Game 2 2018 2 at Stadium Australia - NSW def Qld 18-14;
3. Game 3 2018 at Suncorp - Qld def. NSW 18-12;
4. Game 1 2019 at Suncorp - Qld def. NSW 18-14;
5. Game 2 2019 at Perth - NSW def. Qld 38-6;
6. Game 1 2020 at Adelaide - Qld def. NSW 18-14;
7. Game 2 2020 at Stadium Australia - NSW def. Qld 34-10;
8. Game 8 2020 at Suncorp - Qld def. NSW 20-14;
9. Game 1 2021 at Townsville - NSW def Qld 26-0; and
10. Game 2 2021 at Suncorp - NSW def. Qld 50-6.

So Cleary, compared to Moses won his first two Origin games he played in compared to Moses. Also he has played and been involved in three series wins to Moses one.

So yeah Moses is obviously so much better :rolleyes:

You need to make an appointment at OPSM to get your prescription checked.

This is probably the most embarrassing period in Queensland's history. All three games were in Queensland, yet they were blown off the park by NSW. That's what people will remember in 20 years time.
People will also remember that NSW were odds on for a whitewash against a QLD team that wasn't given any chance of holding them out, but NSW just couldn't do it.

I never said Moses is better than Cleary. I’m saying your summation that Moses isn’t up to this level after 1 game where he was involved in 2 of NSW tries is rubbish.

The picking extra second rowers instead of props has been going on for well over a decade. NSW selectors are just as much to blame as this has been going on long before Fittler or even Laurie Daley were appointed to coach NSW.

As to Tedesco, if you think he played badly you need your head read. Bad players don't go looking for the ball to inject themselves. They don't bob up all over the field, make more runs than any other player in the squad (24 compared to To'o and Turbo who hade 16) nor make the most meters in the team with ball in hand (204 meters, compared to To'o with 180 meters and Turbo with 147 meters). Thing is how many times when Tedesco ran was there no one pushing up in support with him? If you think that means he had a shocker, then sorry but you are a very poor judge.

NSW player stats, from fox Sports (source: https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/state-of-origin/match-centre/SOO20210301/stats)

24 runs for 204M, busy as f**k but mostly contained. You can't knock his effort, but he was trying to solve a problem that didn't exist by taking it upon himself to win the game, that starved the likes of Turbo and Mitchell of quality ball.

It was a Gallenesque type performance, if he makes the difference there, winning the game grabbing it by the scruff of the neck and dominating, he's rightfully praised for his "true origin effort", but he didn't he choked it with sideways running and running round in circles. The last play of the game was an apt finish to his performance.

This is the correct take on the game.
Tedesco, Moses, Wighton all did good things. None of them were poor.
However, NSW had the perfect game plan for games 1 and 2…hold the line in defence and feed your centres with good early ball.
Simplistic but effective as evidenced from the 76-6 cumulative score line. The three guys mentioned tried to put their mark on the game and they didn’t need to. QLD selected low quality defensive centres again. This is the point that the uber sensitive to criticism Freddy and Brandy keep missing.
It is not that these guys didn’t play well, they went away from what was clearly working and brought QLD back into the game, where emotion got them home.
It was a fail as the sweep should have been relatively easy to complete.

based on Game 1 and 2, Cleary and Luai would have capitalised in goodball, put scoreboard pressure on QLD, and the Maroons would've been deflated once again. Instead, they felt they were in the game as it progressed which fuelled their confidence. NSW had plenty of chances but were a bit direction-less in attack at times.

Teddy got involved way too much. Stats should only be taken at face value. The numbers didn't benefit the team on this occasion.

Focus has been on the halves, but there probably should've been a like for like replacement for Saifiti. Apart from that drop, Finucane was great, but too many edge or small middles otherwise in the NSW squad otherwise. In contrast, all 4 of QLD 'real' props contributed greatly to the QLD performance.

Agree with you entireley. Dunno why the NSW hierarchy over the last 15-20 years keep thinking you can replace specialist front rowers with specialist second rowers and expect it will not negatively effect the team. Every time they do it, Qld just roll through the middle with big bopper front rowers.

Exactly. Cleary was pathetic in 2 of the 3 games last year.

100% spot on here mate

People hate Moses for reasons and look to give the kid no credit for anything he did well. Sure he could have ran the ball a bit more but all the talk before the game was "he only needs to kick or pass the ball to Mitchell/Turbo" so which is it.

I thought he played well for a rookie half. Wighton was far worse and did little but get in the way outside of the 1 run he did to score, which on the law of averages had to pay off at some time
