Definitely careless. That;s why the charge is harsh and we should certainly look for a downgrade.

Devastated. That's all I can really say about this, I'm just shattered. That's Latrell gone for the entire finals. An extremely tough one to swallow that's for sure. I just feel really low and gutted today, not in good spirits at all. This is a massive blow in a year where we just have to make it happen. I'm not going to write the boys off but this has certainly made it so hard without one of our main men.

I'm sure we're all hurting but none more so than Trell himself. He'll be beside himself. He'll feel like he's let the entire club down and in a way, he has, to be brutally honest. Thoughts with him.

Just a really tough day, this has certainly hit me hard.

'Should've been gone' - Girdler and Geyer both say Mitchell should have been sent off

Ryan Girdler is one of a growing number of former players and commentators saying Latrell Mitchell should have been sent off for his high shot on Joey Manu on Friday night.

Girdler also joined Mark Geyer in saying the Rabbitohs are no hope of winning the competition without Mitchell.

The Souths fullback will be suspended for at least six weeks after being hit with a grade two reckless high tackle charge by the judiciary.

The fullback must successfully have the charge overturned if he is to step foot on the footy field again in 2021.

The high shot is all anyone is talking about following South Sydney's 54-12 win over their arch-rivals at Suncorp Stadium.

Speaking on Triple M on Saturday, Girdler said Mitchell should have been sent off.

"How the NRL didn't send Latrell off last night has got me absolutely buggered," Girdler said.

"We saw what happened at Magic Round. Guys were getting a little tap or graze around the neck and we were having guys sent off and put in the bin.

"It was inadequate what happened last night.

"I know there's a few ex-players who've come out and said it's hard with the timing and that there's a lot of emotion in the game, but if the NRL is serious about getting these sorts of incidents out of the game, Latrell should've been marched immediately last night.

"He should've been gone."

Girdler continued, saying Mitchell's high shot was "selfish."

"There's parts of his game where he gets emotionally charged like that," he said.

"Whether it's grand finals or Origins, we've seen him have run-ins with certain players where he just needs to make sure he gets that team first mentality.

"Last night, what he did - to a degree - was all about Latrell.

"It was a selfish act and he's penalised not just himself, but the rest of that Souths side."

Rugby league hard man Geyer agreed that Mitchell should have been given his marching orders.

"I thought it was a send off. I thought no way is he going to see the rest of the game," MG said.

"It was the 57th minute, then he came back on and rubbed salt into the wound and scores a try in the 71st minute.

"That was a bad one. Was he aggressive? Yeah. I don't think he meant to injure Manu at all, they're good mates.

"That's not a good look. If that's not a send off, I don't know what is."

Both Girdler and Geyer agreed that the Bunnies can't win the premiership without Mitchell.

"There's been consequences for this one, with Joey Manu, who will miss the rest of the season, and his Roosters," Girdler said.

"Latrell's not going to play again this year, and South Sydney, I thought they were going to struggle to win the Premiership with him, but I don't think they can win it without him.

"It's a real shame, because two of the best players in the game at the moment aren't going to feature in the finals."

Said Geyer: "I think that's them done now. Latrell's been on fire this year on the footy field.

"He's been one of the top 10 players consistently in the competition this year.

"I don't think they can win the comp."

Manu was forced off the pitch and taken to hospital immediately with a suspected fractured cheekbone.

I'm not really arguing, I could tell he's simple minded from his first reply. Now he thinks they should challenge the grading and risk a 9 week suspension. If anything Souths should of been happy it wasn't a reckless grade 3.

He's hurting !!! not as much as Joey Manu would be though - Do that to one of your mates no wonder Manu was so very visibly upset by it not once but twice

Manu is a super nice bloke from the fan days i have been to - quiet and respectful of everyone who speaks to him and has anything to sign etc etc.

His younger Brother Kani is the same - played for the Chooks SG Ball this year

As much as a win would have been good I am sure the coaching staff would have emphasised to the players for the last 2 rounds NO suspensions - just have no crap in your game !!!
