2021 Rabbitohs Rumours, Signings And News

There’s a lot of good vibe between nz and oz, say last two decades when we started getting more Maori and islander people coming to live here.

Where previously, they would go to NZ and NZ ers would know all about the pacific and we had no idea. We still don’t but are just starting to learn.

You can go to places in Sydney and learn the beautiful and graceful Maori dancing and singing if you want. They welcome all cultures to join.

I am big on my pacific stuff. Great players in the nrl etc but the greater social influence grows and I am favour of it.

Also, I am not a skirt chaser, but some of the islander women are very pretty naturally in ordinary work clothes and stuff. You think, wow, that lady should be a model!

A bit off topic, but those are my thoughts relating to Benji and his culture and oz etc. All good.

My side for round 1

1. Latrell
2. AJ
3. Gagai
4. Graham
5. Mansour
6. Walker
7. Reynolds
8. Tom
9. Cook
10. Arrow
11. Sua
12. Host
13. Murray

14. Benji
15. Tatola
16. Koloamatangi
17. Burns/Moga/Milne

I don't expect it. Tatola 8, Arrow 13, Murray 12, Host 15 and another forward at 17 is probably how Bennett will go.

Mate I wouldn’t be surprised if Benji is in the 18 jersey for round 1 either.

On another note word is Liam Knight is training the house down looking very keen and fit. Knight will make our best 17, I have no doubts about that.

The first 13 you first named is probably exactly how I'd go as well but it's in the back of my mind the Kaeon will eventually be a starter.
With the bench, no way you play two backs on the bench.
Benji should be 18, and save him until either an injury to the halves occurs, or after midway through the season, to keep him fresh and healthy for the run to the finals and beyond. Knight will definitely be on the bench, and a good chance the other bench spot goes to Cartwright.

Isn't Milne broken down and unavailable for the first 6-8 weeks at least? I thought that's what I'd read when they signed him.

Why not? A rugby league side can be broken down into 3 blanket positions - forwards, backs and spine. A bench should be able to cover all positions without weakening the starting side further. A bench of Knight, Tatola, Cartwright and Koala is very one dimensional and only covers 5/13 positions, 7/13 at a stretch.

Benji covers the spine in case of injury or need for a change and doesn't even have to come on if there's no need.

The second back (impact back) can cover the outside backs or come on as an impact player against tired defenders late in a half. I'm looking for someone who is big/strong enough to cope with a few minutes as an edge forward if necessary.

Koala and Tatola relieve the middle forwards in a rotation of players who are all capable of playing quality minutes between the 5 of them. Including the edge forwards, this will have 7 players covering 400 minutes at an average of 57 each. The edge forwards should be exceeding that and the middles capable of playing that many with quality. Plus a short burst from the impact back.

I'd forgotten about Knight. He's slipped down the pecking order but will most likely be there in round one.

I don't know if anyone else posted this but from the article in todays SMH about Benjis first session it says that when he arrived before 7am he was bought a coffee by Cooky who club insiders insisted "had never shouted a coffee in his life". It also had a quote from Benji that he "couldn't sleep last night I was that excited. It felt like it was the first day at school". I really feel like this is going to be a very important signing for us.

All Knight needs to do is run the ball up, get tackled then stand up with out all the bullshit and just play the bloody ball, cut the crap out of his game and he will get to be a really good footballer.
His energy and couple of crucial offloads turned the tide in the semi against Parra last year.

Watched both those games, on Friday, when it was pissing down rain, didn't think anybody had bad games - the p[layers that stood out where Reynolds, Walker and Murray. The forwards all had very solid games and got the better of one of the form squads, Parramatta, at that time.

Knight played well but insists on trying to get bullshit penalties by rolling around and stuff - just get up quick and play the bloody ball, he'd have much better impact.
He does have an offload in him as does Tatola, I'm happy if both players develop this skill.
