Of course i would like Gagai to stay but if Souths don't win the comp this season, does he really feature in the next premiership window? The club is clearly going down a re-tooling path in the next couple of seasons and it makes sense to with young talent already in the door like Murray, Graham, Koloamtangi etc. The results shouldn't plummet in the short term and in the long term, we could be entering another 'window' by 2025.

Looking at a potential 13 in 2025 that have played first grade this season.
*Edited to include age at start of 2025)

1 Latrell (27)
2 AJ (29)
3 Burns (28)
4 Graham (25)
5 Milne (29)
6 Taaffe (25)
7 Hawkins (25)
8 Tatola (28)
9 Mamz (23)
10 Arrow (29)
11 Host (28)
12 Koloamatangi (26)
13 Murray (26)

Can be improved of course but there is already a base for the club to build on. Even add in Lachlan Ilias, Davvy Moale, Terrell Kalo Kalo and Josiah Karapani who have all recently began their professional journey who could figure heavily.

I see your point but in my opinion, Gags is currently in career best form and is currently one of the best centres in the comp. Plus, he has plenty of good years still ahead of him.

We simply cannot ignore this in my opinion, have to retain him!!

I get it, but try to look at the quality of signings.
Johnson - nobody wanted him, and he'll probably be getting half, or less, of the money he was on. The Warriors originally said no to him, suggesting he was asking for more than they were willing to pay. He must have lowered his price.
Sua - he is dropped from a contending team, dropped from SOO, and can't get back in barring a plethora of injuries. IMO we've dodged a bullet on extending him, although I would have been making a call to the Broncos for a player swap with Pangai at least for this season. Next season becomes a problem financially. But Bennett's comments suggest a deal is quite possible.
Capewell - well who else besides the Broncos were serious about trying to get him? And was he serious about any other team?
Gagai - yes it would be disappointing, and I would have tried to keep him for another 2 years, but more than that "could" be a gamble given his age. He'll be 31 next season. Maybe Dylan Walker might be a bargain buy here, he's only 26, his skills are not in question, it's his mental attitude, and injuries. But I doubt he is going to get any good offers, he's going to have to lower his price by quite a bit.

Also bear in mind most of us deep down knew it had to be last year or this year as the window to win the comp. After that, the transition was coming. Hopefully it won't be too long and painful.....
I agree with the pengai sua swop,JD must have history with him, his 600k would be subsidised, sua probably asking for 650 at least, but this is the situation were i say we drop the ball,is, has ,anyone thought about doing this? If we lose gags, i wouldnt mind isako,he i consider a half decent winger and he needs a change of club.
Yes it may be a closing window, but why does it mean we slide down the ladder, other clubs ive mentioned get through adversity, injurys, retirements, changes in personel and year after year are in the top 4, thats what i want, we are going through a transition but instead of gradual it looks like a massive drop in quality personel.

I understand and can agree with the sentiment but the club and it's future needs to come first. If it becomes a choice of Gagai now or Latrell in another year or two, I'd be opting to prioritise Latrell.

If you're referring to Melbourne, they remain successful because they have a great coaching setup that has remained consistent for many years now. They actually don't buy much talent at all, they tend to shop in the bargain bin and get the most out of it.

Souths are about to go through their third coaching change in 5 years. While all were necessary for various reasons, it isn't a great recipe for sustained success.

This bargan bin and improving players is something alot of clubs could learn and benefit from, including us, ive mentioned meeney a few times,as a good buy well he is on his way south, a great buy for melbourne.
Honestly our depth is no good, we have a team that has been lucky to win 1 game, with substandard has beens, thats were we need improvement

Well I'd like to know where Melbourne seem to pluck these Fijians out of nowhere and end up state or test level representatives. We could do with some scouting like that.

Isaako - yeah I like him but he's not really a specialist centre. For the wing, yeah sure, but what about Paulo? I know I bagged him but he is still very young, he has potential and with some development, maybe he can step up.

On Pangai, maybe they are making calls. Remember what Bennett said about him last fortnight? But the problem is if we do the swap, what happens next year? We don't have the cap space (unless we move Knight and Cartwright) but it's intriguing, his one of the top offloaders in the NRL, that'd be great for Cody, Cookie and our backline.

The bargain bin - like Dylan Walker. But unfortunately with his history, and the way he parted ways with our club, I doubt they are considering it, but (at bargain basement), they should. Could be a great bargain addition.

Also, I understand your nervousness, but look at the list Travitoh posted. If those guys can be as good as hoped, we will be a good team.

And Penrith won't be able to hold all their guys. I'd go after Moses Leota, I like the fire in him, and he's a strong dude, vgood ball runner

Empty stadiums, player bubbles return as Sydney enters lockdown: https://www.nrl.com/news/2021/06/26/empty-stadiums-player-bubbles-return-as-sydney-enters-lockdown/

Clubs told to adopt 'whatever it takes attitude' as NRL prepares to move fixtures amid Sydney's COVID-19 crisis: https://wwos.nine.com.au/nrl/nrl-cl...rew-abdo/ed7bd858-4e88-458e-8a06-c852d2f85efc

Not good news, not good news at all. Pretty gutted it's come to this agin so quickly to be honest, hated having no crowds there last year and it'd really suck if games started getting moved. Oh well, guess there's nothing we can do about it. We just have to deal with it and keep moving on. At least the competition can still run and we'll have Footy to watch. Really hoping it'll only be for a few weeks too but who knows?

To those of you in Sydney, stay safe!

Mate, im sorry to be negative, ive sat here today reading signing news from other clubs, johnson back to warriors plus their plethora of signings, broncos getting capewell plus maybe sua plus maybe gagai plus plus, and here our great club sits, because of miscalculations, pushing players out the door, im personally demoralised. I know the reasons, but the reasons dont make it right that we have and will lose players that make us competitive. Its a merrygoround, its our turn at the bottom.
Just an additional point to my reply, man Capewell got absolutely torched last night. Sure it was Tommy Turbo but still, you still gotta be able to make tackles. I think Tommy beat Capewell every single time he took him on one-on-one. The QLDers were screaming about needing centres. That tells you Capewell ain't one.

As I said in my reply, you need to look at whose actually getting signed and the quality of the signing before worrying that Souths aren't making moves.

Capewell is only a stop gap centre, in reality we all know he is a second rower, he is probably going to get close to 500k deal by a desperate club, as i see it, quality players are in short supply, bottom feeders who have money and teams with a dedicated recruiting officer are making the moves, look at sullivan at the warriors, they havent stopped buying. The broncs are going to have less now that they are holding on to lodge and pengai, they will have milfs million, and a couple of the older forwards and maybe a back or 2 ,issako , hunt, enough for say 3 more recruits.
Im hoping to keep gagai and offer him 2 years.
Which again ill say it we need a dedicated recruiter/ negotiator, we are being cherry picked and not responding, and i hate it.

Cookies 30 years old, and on a reported 850k how long has he got? Does anyone know when he is up for renewal? For sure it will be a 1 year deal and down to 500k, that will free up a chunk

Given how good the new kid looked on debut, the club may have to do what they did to Reyno and opt for a changing of the guard.

Well it is what it is, i think 2 more years and mamouzelos can step in,weve been lucky this year origin hasnt impacted us so much, but as i see cookie play, he isnt running as much and his service is nothing special, as benji said, at times its not accurate and time is lost picking it up either its too high or too low or misdirected, the writing is on the wall having korisau in camp, just looked it up,cook is contracted for 2 more seasons,i think that will see him out tbh, unless we shift him after next year, says he is on 900k
