KBW: We have to accept that there aren't too many intelligent people out there and in todays society we are forced to tolerate them. So in my tolerance, the correct spelling is Souths and I suggest you find a community course somewhere to help with your illiteracy.

Nothing to grunt about with the other neanderthals on your own teams site? Guessing you are a non-resident supporter of the rorters.

Anyway, the circus must be in town and the B in your initials stands for Bozo? Just an intelligent guess!

SOUTHS CLAIM NRL EXPLOITING MITCHELL
By Weedler

South Sydney are on a collision course with the NRL over what the Rabbitohs see as the exploitation of their star Latrell Mitchell.

The Rabbitohs have been privately seething for months about the NRL’s approach to Mitchell. There have been a number of flashpoints , but it peaked at Tuesday’s draw announcement when NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo was asked about the scheduling of Souths’ match against Sydney Roosters. Abdo did little to hide his delight at the timing of the game, which is scheduled for round three when Mitchell returns from a ban for his hit on Joey Manu.

The smile on Abdo’s face when he delivered the news was what irked Souths as much as the scheduling of the match.

The clash between Manu and Mitchell was one of the most dramatic on-field moments of the year, one that still divides the two clubs – and fans. Mitchell missed the Rabbitohs’ run to the grand final and will sit out the first two games of 2022 after he pleaded guilty to a grade-two reckless high tackle for the hit that left Manu with a fractured eye socket.

Souths claim there has been no real consideration given to Mitchell in the scheduling of the rematch – quite the opposite – and that he is being exploited.

Souths chief executive Blake Solly chose his words carefully.

‘‘ The NRL are quick to utilise Latrell and his profile to market the competition or ask him to take a leadership position on issues such as vaccination – when it benefits them,’’ he said. ‘‘ It would be more impressive if they were as quick to protect and defend him from some of the outrageous personal criticism and abuse he receives at other times.’’

Solly and the Rabbitohs were privately seething at the game’s bosses – Abdo in particular, who said Mitchell should have been sent off – for the way they reacted to the incident. That the NRL publicly criticised the match officials prior to Mitchell’s case being concluded annoyed Souths, but they bit their tongue.

The last comment Solly made about racist attacks on Mitchell is a direct reference to a real sore point at Souths that has lingered for two years. It relates to a story first raised in this column when Mitchell was asked to wear an Indigenous flag in the return of the

Simply The Best

ad campaign, without prior consultation with Souths or Mitchell. The Souths star posing draped in the flag became a focal point of the heavily criticised commercial and Mitchell was left to handle the fallout.

‘‘ I certainly didn’t mean any disrespect by smiling or my comments,’’ Abdo said. ‘‘ The draw throws up lots of situations and we don’t focus on one individual. I was smiling because it wasn’t something that was planned for or I had thought about. Latrell is a wonderful player and fans will be excited to see him back playing again. The schedule is driven by so many constraints and we don’t focus on any one individual element.’’

RABBITOHS CASHING IN

Despite the departures of coach Wayne Bennett and captain Adam Reynolds, the corporate world is getting right behind the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Over the next few weeks chief executive Blake Solly will reveal three new sponsors, one of them a major, to join the likes of Aqualand, Menulog, Crown and Wotif as corporate supporters.

The new agreements will ensure Souths will be up there with the Broncos and Roosters as the highest sponsored clubs in the competition.

Having glamour players of the calibre of Latrell Mitchell, Cody Walker, Cameron Murray and Damien Cook is obviously helpful in attracting the more lucrative sponsorship deals.

SIX-AGAIN TWEAK

As if there haven’t been enough rugby league rule changes … now the NRL wants to tamper with the controversial six-again law next season.

Under the new plan, teams will get a penalty inside their own 20-metre zone instead of six-again for when the opposition is offside or caught interfering and slowing down the play-the-ball. This often happens early in the tackle count when teams deliberately give away a six-agains to keep opponents pinned on their own line.

Easy fix to annoy the smug NRL, build the match up all week, get the rorters fired up and pull Mitchell last minute with an injury. They will freak and serves them right.

The NSW government is considering a $120 million project to put a retractable roof over Stadium Australia in Homebush.

The more modern facilities will safeguard the future of Stadium Australia as a major-event venue. The government spend would be justified in the dollars it would generate for tourism from major events.

It will also mean the South Sydney Rabbitohs will remain at Homebush rather than move to Moore Park to share the new Allianz Stadium with the Sydney Roosters.

The Rabbitohs have a 10-year lease at the Homebush stadium but it is conditional on the government spending money to bring the venue up to world-class standards.

Loving this!! Solly is 100% right!

This is what we've been crying out for for a while, Souths playing hardball with the NRL. Finally someone stands up and says it!

Sounds great! Thanks for posting!

I think TCL/Alcatel is gone along with Zoom because they have disappeared of the Souths website.

I get that people will complain it's another change but I like it and believe this is a good idea.

Monday Buzz: Time for Blake Solly to stop portraying Latrell Mitchell as a victim

The Rabbitohs are completely out of line for making out Latrell Mitchell is some sort of victim, writes PHIL ROTHFIELD.
November 14, 2021 - 8:00PM
News Corp Australia Sports Newsroom

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are already missing old super coach Wayne Bennett — and he’s only been gone for six weeks.

Bennett’s departure means chief executive Blake Solly is now in charge and takes over as the voice of the Rabbitohs.

And this isn’t necessarily a good thing.

Certainly not judging by his comments to Nine Entertainment over the weekend regarding superstar fullback Latrell Mitchell and making him out as some sort of victim.

In case you missed it, the headline read: ‘South Sydney claim NRL exploiting Mitchell.’

Solly went on to say the following:

“The NRL are quick to utilise Latrell and his profile to market the competition or ask him to take a leadership position on issues such as vaccination – when it benefits them.

“It would be more impressive if they were as quick to protect and defend him from some of the outrageous personal criticism and abuse he receives at other times.”

All this because NRL CEO Andrew Abdo smiled at the 2022 draw announcement when he was asked about mouth-watering build-up to round three when Latrell plays the Roosters and opposes Joey Manu, the player he recklessly bashed in the final round of the competition.

Solly has a short memory.

Manu finished up with three metal plates and 12 bolts in his face.

They will be there for the rest of his life.

Even with the emotion long gone, most accept Latrell got what he deserved with a six-week suspension.

Personally, your columnist would have been happier with 10 weeks.

For Souths to be still carrying on about it … seriously.

Latrell cost them the grand final by not being there.

With Bennett in charge, the Rabbitohs moved on straight away and went within a whisker of winning the title.

Deep down Bennett knew the judiciary had no option.

His only criticism at the time was fair enough and directed at Roosters coach Trent Robinson.

“Trent’s got a couple of those players himself he coaches,” Bennett said.

“So I don’t know why he’s looking over the fence at us for.

“We’ll look at our own situation and we’ll address it if we have to.”

That was the end of it.

Good to see the new ownership we have a respected billionaire now part owner not like other clubs who are propped up by shady used car dealers

Yeah, you have an actor and a casino entrepreneur who's casino company has done some very shady things amongst your ownership group. They've never done anything wrong eh? 😂
