Possm, Possm, Possm.......you do realise it's not his job anymore......he's just a 'clerk' now. Haran is the one you should direct your angst to now.
I believe Heron is GM football and Millward is the recruitment manager. Heron does like the headlines and seems to like taking credit for a new signing, but that just means he likes being in the headlines.

Whoever is in charge of recruitment, I urge them to find a way through the problem we have in replacing Frizell and finding a tough prop.

Need to look outside the NRL, and seek out players in the ESL or NZ Rugby. Unbelievable that with the whole of the South Coast we don’t have any quality Props/ Forwards that are in the mix. We certainly don’t have a specialist Lock right now.

I'm no bigger fan of Milllward than you are Possm but, as I understand, recruitment is now the responsibility of a committee comprising Haren, Millward and Webb. Obviously Hook has a lot of input as well but no official role. I could be wrong but I seem to remember Haren explaining this in an early interview after Hook's appointment.

It's not a cap, it's a crap. In all of the years that we have had a salary cap, there are several clubs who have managed honestly well and there have been others who have done dishonestly well and those who tried to be sneaky having been found out - some more seriously than others. I cannot recall if Souths have been caught out in the past, but I certainly haven't read anything that the Roosters have.

If they are the yardstick to show how to manage the cap, then why aren't we looking at their "model" and see what coloured bags they use? Red for higher payment, green for less etc?

We definitely should have gone for that White guy who wanted to buy into ownership of the joint venture instead of the Father and Son Gordons. I am sure that we would have secured better staff and players under him and even getting good players wanting to come rather than getting the rejects.

Well said DD- the whole damn mess starts and finishes with the Board who aren't worth a pincher. The conundrum is however- how do we get rid of them?

The forwards are the problem, Tariq Sims has had too many injuries and at his age is unlikely to improve. Vaughan seems to have his head in the wrong place. I noted his behaviour at the end of the charity shield match. McInnes is a huge loss he had the best defense in the team. We need some powerhouse forwards but I don't see any.

With the exception of maybe half a dozen players, sadly that squad will end the coaching career and aspirations of Anthony Griffin.
No Leader, poor spine & piss weak pack. It will take a coaching miracle by Hook & associates to avoid the cellar.

Agree. And, unfairly, due to the ridiculous and ultimately disastrous extension given to Mary, the Board panicked and Hook's been shafted with a two year deal to turn the Titanic around- good luck with that.

But on the contrary we could of got rid of Mary after he boasted 85 from a GF to mask almost the biggest slide from 1st to scrape into the 8 that I have seen in record time.
Hook could of come into the coaching ranks in 2019 and still had the same mammoth task.
For me he has only got to show a reasonable hint of steering the ship back in the right direction to have his 2 years extended.
To get the ship on course and powering forward wind assisted will take longer.
We do have a base in the Illawarra in juniors. We start getting those transitions right we can then start to see the real rebuild.

Overall, I think the coaching staff will have a tough job in getting immediate consistent winning results. Given sometime, they will be able to coach this as they are no dummies.

The problem as we know it is that our forwards are well and truly below par and even the best of coaches would not be able to get them to be the leaders of the competition pack.

Our coaches must know that we are deficient in this regard and I am sure that they will be desperately looking at all options available to them balancing this out with the constraints of the salary cap. We have got to make our offers attractive and "desirable". They are the ones plus Webb to tell the recruiting staff to get cracking and try harder.

Agree, thats why i never really tap into the narrative of just replacing Fritzell and Graham and we’re back to some sort of acceptable norm....We were damaged goods even in 2018 as you highlight and only a ‘throw caution to the wind’ type semi final game masked a unhealthy core. Good luck to Griffin, but i also get the feeling he feels confident he can steer it in the right direction.

If you've ever watched the movie 'Stripes' with Bill Murray, it's a fair mirror of what we are and what we could become.

Hook and Co have an enormous job to basically get a team of the 'misfiring' and convert them into a team of the 'firing'. Wont happen overnight and it may take several rounds, as Hunt eluded to, for it to click under real playing conditions.

I realise the patience for most is almost extinguished, however, we endured for 7 years just a couple more weeks and then make a judgement call.

Personally happy to give Griffin longer....has inherited a mess...will not be an overnight fix....

we all know who to thank for this...

I still maintain that a Creighton for Frizell and a Welch for Graham would have given our pack the go foward it badly needs.

I think your answer lies with.this statement from Brandon Smith:

“I see myself as being a really happy person in a Melbourne Storm jersey, and I see Jahrome Hughes just re-signed for three years and I think he took something like a $200,000 pay cut.

It's not just about the $$$.

100% Possom but sadly that wishing and hoping has past....for a club like ours thats steeped in history and a team that at one time everyone wanted to play in just doesnt happen anymore
