The 2022/23 South Africa Rugby League season kicks off this weekend, with 12 teams set to feature in the Gauteng Conference.

The University of Pretoria Tuks, who have been one of the dominant sides of the SARL for the past decade, have rebranded as Harlequins Pretoria.

The Limpopo / Mpumalanga Province is expected to kick off in late October with a further 6 teams competing.

Encouragingly there are signs of life in the Western Province with the Cape Wizards, Tygers and Dynamiters all promoting training for the 2022/23 season.

Good to see things still kicking along in South Africa, with that kind of domestic activity they have a few World Cup teams covered.

It’d be good if they could be fit in to the Southern Hemisphere structure somewhere during the World Cup cycle as a reward for their efforts, maybe in a 2nd or 3rd tier of the Oceania Cup if/when it returns.

They should try contact Andrew Abdo and try and from some NRL development program. Especially that Abdo is South African and abundance of rugby players
