nothing says top level sport like 9000 people in a Local park with rows of porta loos lol
There are portaloos at the F1 as well.

I’m sure most NRL fans would be positive of a game going to the regions, not bag it out

Makes the game look amateurish, but that’s just my opinion.
Pre season games are fine And every club should be taking at least one to a regional town.
Having said that when some clubs are drawing sub 10k at home I suppose regional crowds don’t make much difference.

Warriors and Sharks in Smaller grounds
Bathurst, Mudgee and Wagga Wagga used.

Great to spread the game
It's the same as in Blighty as it was great to see good crowds of 3000 plus for Barrow and Whitehaven play SL teams and rather see that most often then 3000 odd at Kirklees for a SL fixture.

That is it. Spread the game around to build it up

cough cough
6000 at a fumbleball game at ballarat or cairns

he doesn't even let his hypocrisy get in the way of a moan 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

Same applies. Except for having to watch that rubbish

Those regions pay taxes
Produce the food etc we need in the city
Giving them a game a year in an elite top tier sport is a good trade off...The fact it helps the game and the clubs is a nice bonus

When you factor in things like capacity restrictions in Perth, both NRL & AFL are down around 10% on their higher averaging season. Interesting that the minor comps (besides basketball which is going through a bit of a boom) such as Union, Soccer and BBL, which were on a downward trend pre-COVID, have had crowds continue to decline at alarming rates. All well less than half their peak averages. Also, ratings for NRL & AFL have held up but those other three comps have had significant drops.

10% is possibly the number of people that have COVID/isolating/worried, and they may well all return if/when the pandemic ends. TIme will tell, but it is safe to say that NRL is doing OK.

In regards to union and A-league, both those competitions went all in on FTA exposure and I would have to imagine they are regretting it now. They each got one game per week on a Saturday night on FTA but in turn sold all rights to the competition to channel 9 (Stan) and Channel 10 (Paramount) streaming services respectively meaning they aren't on foxtel/Kayo at all. I doubt any competitions in this country other than NRL and AFL have the drawing power to prop up a non sports based streaming service.

I used to keep an eye on both competitions but have no idea what is going on now because they aren't on foxtel. Also, I haven't yet been to a pub/club that has a subscription to either service. I can only assume this has filtered down to crowd attendance.

Regional games are the just about the only time the stadiums are full. Great atmosphere and can look great on TV as long as they have decent lighting. Got the spread the love.
Lavington is Albury has just been expanded to about 12K. I know it is an oval but it is small and great for RL. Plenty of City v Country games there in the past but a much better venue now. Storm or Raiders as the away team would draw a full house.

Lol
RL fans can see the positives of taking games to country areas. & there are many positives ..a smaller crowd (still packed country ground looks great) is a tiny negative .
AFL fans will criticise this .
Lol he already has.

Small minded rugby league fans with no ambition for what the top tier of the sport should and could be see the positives of sub 10k crowds played in third grade venues. But each to their own, some of us from other places are used to top tier sports being played in $1billion stadiums to 40k fans.

PR I think you get a bad rap on here but you’re way off base here. I normally agree that our small crowds make the code look amateurish but not the country games.

Getting 10K crowds to the big city games makes our game look unappealing and frankly the games lack atmosphere. Games at places like Mudgee though? They look fantastic on TV and the atmosphere at the ground is electric.

Also can we not try and shaft regional Australia which frankly has been the backbone of our sport and one of our big advantages over the AFL?

And some of us don’t continually run down the sport we purport to enjoy.

No problem, people are allowed to have different opinions.
we only take games to regional areas at the moment ad they are so poorly attended in the cities So grabbing the councils cash makes sense.

Yet you label them small minded? Not a lot of respect being shown there! Games being taken to regions is a long standing strategy by the nrl and clubs to build the brand. You as usual only see the negatives.

As a fan of a side that has taken a 'home' game to the regions. It has had many benefits of course the $300k is good for the club.
Lots of young kids in Panthers jerseys too was great. in 30 years those kids could be CEO's of larger companies and with a love of the game. They invest more than just their membership dollars
