Boom Queensland Under 19 back rower Jack Howarth can’t wait to play in the forwards for the first time in two years on Thursday night after a lengthy stint in the centres.

The game, originally scheduled for the weekend of May 20-22, will take place this Saturday, June 25, at Marsden State High School.

The 19-year-old will play for Queensland Under 19 side on Thursday night in Sydney after a journey in more ways than one. His father, Pila Fifita, enjoyed a stellar career in rugby union which culminated in a World Cup appearance.

Newly-minted Queensland Under 19 captain Xavier Va’a will wear the number ‘11’ stitched on his jersey in tonight’s showdown with New South Wales in honour of inaugural Queensland Maroons skipper Arthur Beetson.

The Queensland camp has had a 1980 theme to recognise the successful 1980 Maroons State of Origin side which ensured the prosperity of Origin football with a 20-10 win at Lang Park.

A stunning four-try burst in 10 minutes laid the foundation for NSW Under 19s to down Queensland Under 19s 32-4 at Leichhardt Oval on Thursday night.

After the Maroons opened the scoring through winger Jacob Mene in the sixth minute the Blues went on a rampage with four tries in 10 minutes to blow the game wide open.

Hastings Deering Colts action gets back underway this weekend with all teams taking part in Round 11.

With the Hostplus Cup celebrating BMD Indigenous Round, a number of Colts teams are also taking part and will wear special jerseys to mark the occasion.
