2022 NRL ratings

What I've been saying for years is ratings plummet when it's not a close game, we saw that with both grand finals because the casual viewer switches off and ratings are done on average viewers. The NRL have an advantage here because the games are shorter so averages are higher, but the disadvantage is it's less hours of actual content.

The tv networks pay for hours of content and overall viewer reach in my opinion, but just a theory.

Like I said I care about the $’s tv generates as that’s all that really matters at end of day.
At the end of the day, it's how the NRL rates throughout the entire season. There's not much you can do with a lopsided GF. Panthers are too good. We are in their era of dominance.

The same thing happened with the AFL. People want to see a contest.

Afl goes for3 hours

test cricket goes for five days

so using your theory cricket should be the highest paid sport

maybe it’s just afl house managed to spin a turd into claims it’s a national competition and broadcasters have fallen for it

but hey just a theory

tv deals are showing tv ratings are only a very minor part of how the sports are valued, gf ratings mean little, 100k here or there doesn’t change what tv is willing to pay.

just over the 2.642m that watched 2019.

be some consolidated adjustments next week, and VOZ includes other regionals (Tas/NT) in 2 weeks., but by and large there wont be much change.

Also someone asked me yesterday what time the GF was on? Honestly i had no idea. The GF kick off times do change fairly regularly. And are rarely on time.

In the world cup later this year, the final will kick off 2am in the eastern states (NSW, Vic, Tas) And it will kick off 2am. Not 2:10am or 2:13am.

The NRL have allowed Nine to be very sloppy in that area. And of course, Origin kick off times are a lottery.

Broadcasters own Oztam. Its not like they can be conned with the data.
That doesnt explain every broadcast deal since 1992

3 metro reach compared to 5 metro reach. Advertisers don’t want to miss out on 15% of the Australian market
Please spare us with the 5 metro nonsense. This totally ignores regional Queensland which has as many people as Perth.

Yeah mate, you are smarter than the CEO's and execs of all of Australia's major tv networks and their team of thousands that go over the statistics and data that we don't even see.

Where do you work out of interest?

On cricket it has about 1/10th the yearly content of the football seasons. Also crickets average viewers would appear less than their true value because the longer a sport goes, the more it reduces the average viewer numbers (ie. the tv ratings we get given). They probably have good overall reach though.

Its only nonsense if you are a league fan. Which while I understand the need to be counted, doesnt mean as much as youd like to think to broadcasters and their advertisers.

I just took your argument about length of game time and applied it to cricket to show how it fails

obviously the amount of people who we watching the sport is cleaners the main issue

The NRL suffered the same fate as the AFL. The game felt like it was damn well near over 10 minutes in, the game never felt like a contest and the overwhelming favourite won easily.

There was no really narrative or excitement to the result (at least when Manly flogged the storm there was some interest due to the rivalry and hatred of the storm).

Also the big question for me is how long till we consider showing the games on fox/kayo? Ratings on FTA are plummeting for the NRL.
