Fun Fact:

Which team got the wooden spoon after the last WC ?

From memory they had the most player representation than any other side throughout the tournament and started the season exhausted 0-6

Parramatta in 2018.

We underestimated the impact ironically though we had no Kanagroo & 1 kiwi representative in Brad Takarangi.

Decent Tongan side, although I can't see them reaching the Final. They could do with a few more unrelated players with the same surname for mine. I would have also had David Fifita and Sione Katoa in the extended squad.

Mate Ma'a Tonga extended squad

  • Talatau Amone (St George Illawarra Dragons)
  • Andrew Fifita (Cronulla Sharks)
  • David Fifita (Gold Coast Titans)
  • Addin Fonua Blake (Warriors)
  • Moeaki Fotuaika (Gold Coast Titans)
  • David Fusitu’a (Leeds Rhinos)
  • Siliva Havili (South Sydney Rabbitohs)
  • William Hopoate (St Helens Saints)
  • Konrad Hurrell (St Helens Saints)
  • Eliesa Katoa (Warriors)
  • Isaiya Katoa (Penrith Panthers)
  • Sione Katoa (Cronulla Sharks)
  • Felise Kaufusi (Melbourne Storm)
  • Oregon Kaufusi (Parramatta Eels)
  • Keaon Koloamatangi (South Sydney Rabbitohs)
  • Toluta’u Koula (Manly Sea Eagles)
  • Tuimoala Lolohea (Huddersfield Giants)
  • Soni Luke (Penrith Panthers)
  • Ben Murdoch-Masila (Warriors)
  • Tesi Niu (Brisbane Broncos)
  • Joe Ofahengaue (Wests Tigers)
  • Haumole Olakau’atu (Manly Sea Eagles)

Interesting to see how Fiji goes at this World Cup, they have been semi-finalists in the last three World Cups. I think they might have had The Plane for all three of those. They can certainly put a pretty competitive 17 out on the park at full strength.

Fiji Bati 33-man squad

  • Waqa Blake (Parramatta Eels)
  • Reagan Campbell-Gillard (Parramatta Eels)
  • Tui Kamikamica (Melbourne Storm)
  • Vuate Karawalevu (Sydney Roosters)
  • Viliame Kikau (Penrith Panthers)
  • Apisai Koroisau (Penrith Panthers)
  • Lamar Manuel Liolevave (Tweed Seagulls)
  • Joe Lovodua (Hull FC)
  • Isaac Lumelume (Canterbury Bulldogs)
  • Netane Masima (Wests Magpies)
  • Laitia Moceidreke (NQ Cowboys)
  • Sitiveni Moceidreke (London Broncos)
  • Taane Milne (South Sydney Rabbitohs)
  • Marcelo Montoya (NZ Warriors)
  • Kevin Naiqama (Sydney Roosters)
  • Ben Nakubuwai (Leigh Centurions)
  • Jason Qareqare (Castleford Tigers)
  • Mikaele Ravalawa (St George Illawarra Dragons)
  • Taniela Sadrugu (NQ Cowboys)
  • Daniel Saifiti (Newcastle Knights)
  • Jacob Saifiti (Newcastle Knights)
  • Pio Seci (Manly Sea Eagles)
  • Korbin Sims (Hull KR)
  • Tariq Sims (St George Illawarra Dragons)
  • Maika Sivo (Parramatta Eels)
  • Penioni Tagituimua (Canterbury Bulldogs)
  • Sunia Turuva (Penrith Panthers)
  • Joseph Vakacereivalu (Redcliffe Dolphins)
  • Semi Valemei (Canberra Raiders)
  • King Vuniyayawa (Salford Reds)
  • Ratu Inoke Vasuturaga (Kinoya Eagles)
  • Brandon Wakeham (Canterbury Bulldogs)
  • Siua Wong (Sydney Roosters)

Gee thats a strong Fiji team, you can take out RCG surely he's a chance for the Green and Gold. Milne he wont play with his suspension and unsure about Api, he may be a chance for Australia but I'm hearing Mal will go with a Grant/Hunt hooker rotation.

Fair side for the Samoans. They have well under achieved in previous World Cups, interesting to see how they go in this one. I think they will actually go better than the Tongans this time around if all put it together.

Toa Samoa World Cup Squad

Josh Aloiai (Manly Warringah Sea Eagles)
Fa'amanu Brown (Wests Tigers)
Stephen Crichton (Penrith Panthers)
Mathew Feagai (St George-Illawarra Dragons)
Braden Hamlin-Uele (Cronulla Sharks)
Chanel Harris-Tavita (Warriors)
Royce Hunt (Cronulla Sharks)
Oregon Kaufusi (Parramatta Eels)
Luciano Leilua (North Queensland Cowboys)
Spencer Leniu (Penrith Panthers)
Danny Levi (Huddersfield Giants)
Jarome Luai (Penrith Panthers)
Taylan May (Penrith Panthers)
Tyrone May (Catalans Dragons)
Anthony Milford (Newcastle Knights)
Josh Papalii (Canberra Raiders)
Junior Paulo (Parramatta Eels)
Jaydn Su’a (St George-Illawarra Dragons)
Joseph Suaalii (Sydney Roosters)
Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow (North Queensland Cowboys)
Izack Tago (Penrith Panthers)
Martin Taupa'u (Manly Warringah Sea Eagles)
Brian To’o (Penrith Panthers)
Kelma Tuilagi (Wests Tigers)
Coach: Matt Parish

Oregon Kaufusi also picked in Tonga extended squad, it would appear he has chosen Samoa.

Players are choosing the nation of their forebears for several reasons, as Joey Suaali pointed out when he chose Samoa over a Kangaroo jumper. Now will we ever see Joey playing for Australia, or Junior Amone or those others who are playing their first international match for another nation rather than playing for their birth nation.

GO THE ROOS.

Most have Ben Hunt in the 'Roos 17. I am a long time Dragons diehard and think he is not as dead set a lay down misere as thise pushing him think. Specially now he has been beaten to the DM medal by Nicho Hynes. Just a wild stab but I dont think either Hunt or Cherry Evans will be picked. Cleary or Moses will be half, perhaps even Hynes, if not as the bench utility plus there are better in form and full time hookers to partner Grant.. namely Cook from the Rabbits and Robson from the Cowboys.

To be honest, I don't think any of those four would make it among the best 22 Australian players this season for squad selection. I won't be too disappointed if we have no kangaroo reps...

Gutherson and Moses were only fringe origin considerations, Lane I don't think has been near any rep sides - maybe Matterson will make it more as a development option...?

Kiwi's will win it, and by a fair margin in the end.
Big games ahead. Roos, Kiwis, Tonga and Samoa are in the battle. UK are unknown.

I see mitch is playing for Lebanon. TBH with a new bub I’m surprised he got a leave pass. Actually surprised that he asked for one.

yeah i don't see any parra guys in the aussie squad .... there are just better players

gutho - not better than teddy and edwards and probably latrell ... utility value probably loses to Hynes
moses - cleary, DCE, munster, hunt
lane - he had a good run recently - he would be the smokie - edge might be a weaker spot for australia - but they will go with others with better names
matto - he can play well but i don't think he did much in origin - again others better
