The issue with Streaming continues to be the infrastructure

Some areas you are lucky and can get fiber to the home

Many othes still run copper cables up to 1.5km from the node. (actual limits are 500m) as bandwidth arent much better than dialup. With no plan to ever upgrade, unless you move home

Then you have Kayo or Optus crashing under load

How much of that 'supposed' $325m did the NRL get to see?
here we go again, all of it, covid reduction apart! Nine agreed to pay NRL $925mill.
Nine then recouped some of it by selling 3 simucast games and Saturday night to Fox.

It ended up costing Fox $875million paid to NRL, pre covid adjustment, and a further $175million for Saturday night and $100million for simucast of three games to Nine. By reports they recouped $100mill back from Telstra for streaming of all games. All up it cost Fox around $1bill for their coverage last deal.

The 2018-22 total was stated by NRL to be $1.8billion plus Sky NZ ($100mill).

At the moment what we have heard for 23-27 is

FTA in negotiation but target seems to be $600mill
Sky NZ $164mill
PayTV/Streaming ?? + $75milll-100mill for expansion

To better what we got last time we need the Fox pay TV/streaming deal to be above $1.1billion +$100mill for expansion

Contra etc has to be factored in. Usually around 10-20%.

If Nine get 3 games for $600mill it would be costing them $50mill less than the last deal, good business for them!

And Again And Again.

The Smith contract late 2015 was reworked early 2016 and the NRL didnt get 925m ever!

What the NRL got from Fox is not the question here. what did ch 9 pay - hint, it wasn't $325m more than there about to pay.

Nope for the umpteenth ti e you are wrong, the nine deal didnt get renogtiated until covid in 2020. The deal stood, you are mixing up what fox paid nine with what nine paid nrl! Show me any evidence at all that nine renegotiated the deal with the nrl Pre 2020.

The new dealIn response to a question, Grant described that deal as having "catalysed the rest of the parties to come to where we sit today". Executives described the new arrangement as having "reconstituted" Nine's initial deal.

"The rights have been re-cut," said one.

In relation to questions about whether or not NRL should have left owner of Fox Sports, News Corp Australia, out of initial negotiations, Grant said “this was not a mistake” and claimed to be happy with the new deal.

In August, Nine secured the NRL free-to-air and streaming rights for the 2018-2022 seasons in a deal worth $185 million per year, but today's news sees a new five-year sports rights deal between Fox Sports, Nine Network and Telstra.

a deal BETWEEN nine, foxtel and telstra ie fox paying nine for 3 games and Saturday, it din t change the nine deal with nrl.

the only way your assertion is correct is if nine paid less and fox paid nrl directly for Saturday and simucast and not one media story says that, they all say fox pays nine.

As part of the deal, the Nine Network has given up its rights to a Saturday fixture to Fox Sports for $35 million, News Corp Australia reports.
In August, Nine signed a $925 million deal for the free-to-air rights that included a Saturday fixture.
However, as part of that agreement Nine were given the option to on-sell the match to Fox Sports.

When you questioned that article the other week, the one promoting this current FTA deal as being the highest ever - maybe the penny should have dropped then. As I said earlier the NRL never got 925m for its FTA rights - ever

Even going by that ABC article you just quoted -
As part of the new deal
have a good day!

of course it was new deal, only half of it had been completed! The new deal was how much Fox and Telstra were adding to Nines already agreed price. Or do you think out of the goodness of their heart the NRL just said to nine 'sure give us less money than you have already signed the contract on'?

link for the pay tv/streaming value? i haven’t seen any figure quoted in media and certainly not confirmed by nrl or fox.the fta deal is now slated to be down $325mill on last deal so hopefully the fox deal has at least covered that PLUS the $75-100mill reported for expansion.

NZ deal is worth $164mill (media reported)
for the umpteenth time
ch 9 bought the rights to 4 games pw & no simulcast from the nrl for 925 million 2018-2022 , before selling the 4th game & simulcast rights to their games to foxtel for 325 million. So 9s actual amount was 600 million.
The total value of the australian rights to that deal were 1.8 billion meaning foxtel were paying 1.2 billion

in 2020 the value of the existing foxtel deal was reduced due to covid by 20 mill a year ( 9 also had theirs reduced by this amount )
& extended deal for foxtel to the year 2027. The NRLs 17th franchise has seen foxtel trump up 100 million to go towards set up costs for the team & purchase the extra 12 games per season from 2023 to 2027 for 125 million.
They're the figures as close as we will get them.

Now don't worry about our's, have a closer look at those rubbery figures released by the AFL & their utter nonsesnse claims lol

I literally gave you the actual reported figures a couple of posts above! fox paid nine $175mill for Saturday and $100mill for simucast of the three games. They recouped $100mill from Telstra. It cost them overall $1.05billion allegedly.

Given the value of expansion we'd want to be reaching at least $1.9 billion to be on par with the last deal (SkyNZ not included) or else in real terms we have gone backwards in tv revenue for the first time since the 90's.

Fox has NOT paid $225mill for the Dolphins lol. They've added $75-100mill (according to the media) to the deal they did with NRL last year.

As for AFL, well it came straight from the CEO so I guess if he is lying about something as important as tv revenue then he wont be in his job very long. At least we'll be able to verify it in their annual report, unlike Vlad that has buried it to avoid accountability.

Our last deal got about $1.9 billion (international rights included). So anything more that is an increase, regardless of how you want to spread it. And I think that 1.9m figure included Telstra naming rights.

You'd want it to be at least $2bill to show some value in expansion, NZ deal was higher, News ltd has got extra benefits like the closing down digital news to nrl.com and broncos off fta, no streaming on telstra etc.

Interestingly looking at the annual reports for 18 & 19 media revenue was tracking at about $1.7billion cash before covid hit and the NRL buried the results. Contra value was tracking at around 7% of overall media value.

haha yes of course they have. I mean why wouldn't a tv company pay for the start up of a rival nrl club to the one it owns on top of paying for extra games lol.

Reality is they have paid somewhere between $75-100mill to get Broncos off FTA to drive Kayo subscriptions in Brisbane. Anything else is just fanciful dreaming.

how will the 12 extra games a year be exclusive to fox, are you suggesting on the bye weeks there will be no fta games?

Doesn't matter what they're paying the $$ for drongo , they're paying it.
Ch 9 aren't getting anymore games in 2023 despite the comp increasing by 12 games

gee
I wonder who's getting them then ?
😎
stv money goes from 220 million 2022 to 265 million 2023

How’s the 12 games going to get incorporated into the draw? I’m presuming their will be more rounds but more rounds with a larger number of byes? if that’s the case are you saying fta won’t have its 3 games them rounds?
