7 get talked up in the negotiation phase by the media every time but why would they want both AFL and NRL?

I dont get why the NRL doesnt try to break up the deal amongst multiple networks...'maybe 7 might be interested in one game a week...

$120m is the value then. So PVL got the same value despite Covid and FTA dying
haha no! The actual value to the NRL was $175million cash a year. That is how much Nine was paying them pre covid. It would require Fox to be paying the NRL directly $55mill more to cover simucast and Saturday night game for it to be same value! Lets say the last deal was for $1.8billion. Nine paid NRL $925mill and Fox paid $875mill. For the deal to be equal it would require Nine to pay $600mill and Fox $1.2billion this deal. Somewhere tied up in it as well is Telstra but its hard to fathom how much they paid NRL in last deal and for what as the games sponsorship is also tied up into it.

If reports of a $2billion deal are true then that would require Fox to be paying $1.4billion! If V'landys has got them to stump up that much at a time they are hemorrhaging viewers to cheaper streaming options then bloody good job I say!

Is Skys $100mil not part of the last deal?

Dude its pretty disingenuous to present Smiths $925mil deal like that when you know the reality of it. It lowered the fox deal and probably lost the game more money because it gave Nein the leverage on the Saturday game and simulcast instead of the NRL.

I'd expect nothing more from him.
Ch9 agreed to $925m but in reality paid less. Very to close to this reported deal

Impossible to say what impact it had on Fox deal, would Fox have paid more than the $55mill Nine recouped? Would Nine have paid so much, or less than the $55million,maybe they thought they could get more out of Fox when they sigend it. Impossible to say. It is what it is, a $925million FTA deal. A bird in the hand and all that.

Ok then. When the new fox deal comes through we can all celebrate every cent above $175mil because thats all they paid the NRL last time.

But you won't do that. Because you've already been doing the math and posting about how much Fox paid Nine in the last deal and what the shortfall needs to be in the new one. Which is exactly my point about the $925mil Nine deal. You can't have it both ways.

As long as it’s more than the loss from a $325mill reduced fta deal then yes we’ll be celebrating!

ah yes the mythical $325m reduced deal.
mythical? Last deal Ch9 agreed to pay nrl $925mill, the rumour is this one nrl will be happy with $600mill. Ergo $325mill difference. If fox have covered the gap all sweet, if not well…………

No matter which way we slice the broadcast rights

International RL is given away for free

And Ch9 use the anti-siphoning laws to keep their value down
In the future the IRL are looking at hosting more tournaments which is a good thing because they will sell the rights directly to the networks. World Cup, Confed Cup / 4 or 6 Nations etc. The NRL will only really have the rights to Kangaroos tests outside of those tournaments.

Problem with that is you can see how committed to the international game the NRL are if they arent getting anything out of it!

Agreed under with a 4th game. That 4th game was later onsold

Therefore 3 games simucast with Exclusive SOO and GF wasn't worth $925m. Ch9 are basically what they did before Fox won't pay any less therefore it is a win for NRL

It will come down to who owns the TV rights ARLC or APRLF or IRL

While IRL owns the RLWC, the rest might sit with ARLC.

But you can bet Ch9 wrote a clause to not allow the IRL sell RLWC rights to other parties

I suspect something similiar happened in NZ
