Today's result Wests beat Easts 44-18

Looks like the top 6 from last year will be favourites to grab the 5 semi final spots, with Penrith, Canterbury, Newtown and Canberra winning and the other two Norths and Parramatta suffering close losses to Penrith and Canberra respectively.

The other winners were Warriors, returning to the competition, and Wests, who defied their stats from last year - 5 wins from 22, and a huge 11 tries to 0 loss to Souths a few weeks ago, to register a first up win.

With 2 rounds to go, the Bears were 5 points clear of 2nd place but 2 losses have closed the gap to 1 point. I suspect the minor premiers are probably the oldest team in the NSW Cup, with Pat Weisner's recruitment choices not being restricted to signing young players as per the NRL ideology for their reserve grades. Even among the Roosters who played for the Bears you have the likes of Jake Turpin and Junior Pauga, who are 26 and 27 respectively.

However, the competition looks wide open with the Bears losing 8 games and the other 4 finalists losing 9.
