one of my pet hates,

the team who lost the least amount of wickets really should have been awarded the win
Yes and no. If the chasing team is trying to accelerate they are going to lose wickets. They can't pull back if they look like losing wickets, they may as well give up chasing.

yeah, but getting the runs without losing wickets is what makes it a better run chase, assuming they can do it

Finally released:

2023 ODI World Cup schedule finally out; India vs Pakistan in Ahmedabad on October 15
The ICC has confirmed that if India qualify for the semi-finals, that game will be held in Mumbai, unless their opposition is Pakistan, in which case the game will be played in Kolkata.

makes perfect sense

Possibly to do with the Mumbai terror attacks

Netherlands blew it against Sri Lanka last night in the WC qualifier, falling short by 21 runs (with plenty of overs to spare). Should've won, but too many soft dismissals from their batsmen was the difference.

Watched the last 5-10 overs of it (televised on Fox Sports), and that was poor batting strategy by Edwards to expose the #10 and #11 to the Sri Lankan spinners. When you're an established batsman in the situation Edwards was in, you've got take as much of the strike as possible to protect the lower-order batsmen from getting skittled.

To eloborate.

Scotland beat the west indies which means that the west indies cannot qualify. Oman are also in the same boat.

Zim, SL, NED and Scotland can all still make it. The first 2 teams need 1 more win each, the latter 2 must win borh remaining games.

Sad to see what has become of the Windies, but on the flip side it is good to see Zimbabwe doing better. I think the WC would be better off with at least 12 teams, but it's hard to argue against Zimbabwe deserving their spot over the Windies.

Well, after this absolute joke of only having 10 teams for the 2019 and 2023 World Cups, the good news is that the tournament will be expanding to 14 teams in 2027, using the same format at the 2003 World Cup (i.e. 2 groups of 7 teams each, top 3 teams from each group go through to the Super Six stage, and the top 4 teams from the Super Six progress to the Semi Finals):

Zimbabwe vs Sri Lanka tonight at 5pm AEST on Fox Cricket.

Winner of this match will qualify for the World Cup.

Loser of this match will have to battle it out with Scotland and the Netherlands for the final (10th) spot in the World Cup.

Sri Lanka beat Zimbabwe by 9 wickets to take their place in the World Cup.

Netherlands play Oman today which you would expect they would win. The key game is Tuesday with Scotland playing Zimbabwe. Zim win they are through. Scotland win and then it will be sudden death Scotland v Netherlands 2 days later.

Netherlands beat Scotland and take the final spot in the 2023 World cup.

Sri Lanka always looked a class above the other teams. The Dutch were excellent all series and definitely deserve their spot.
