Beg pardon to the other posters for derailing the thread, but it`s an interesting point you make about the effects of the crowd on your experience at the f-ball. I remember when both codes came back during the pandemic, f-ball came across on Tv far worse without the crowd as compared with League, it really highlighted how ridiculous the game was without the baying audience. The big crowds really are their secret ingredient.

Man the sounds of the collisions were f**king nuts.

Get these guys another 5-10k seats until Auckland makes up their mind on a new stadium.

Current ticket availability for Melbourne on Thursday night. Grey / white areas are sold seats / sold out bays. Outside of the corners, reserved seating in the lower bowl is almost maxed out. Hard to know how GA is going, but historically it is the strongest selling section at AAMI Park.

Very healthy sales in the upper bays on both sides.

It’d be interesting to see if crowds keep improving whether they tweak their pricing & categories. Those bronze bays behind the posts sell well, maybe they could extend them to either the whole of bays 16-18 & 37-39 or the first half of 15,19,36 & 40. Then make those corner top tier bays GA or same price as GA but with a reserved seat number.

The Storm GA membership map has those top corner bays coloured as GA, but ticketek sells them as bronze I have noticed.

The NRL should not replicate what the AFL does. Both have different competitions. For example, the NRL starts it's comp earlier so that it can incorporate rep footy like Origin. Origin, rightly or wrongly, does impact the NRL comp. Fumbles has no rep footy.

I want the NRL to look after it's own backyard. To Hell with the AFL. Like....who cares.

Will definitely impact Bulldogs & Knights games.

Prediction for Saturday is improving with rain expected to only take place in the morning, though I'm not sure how many people will want to sit on a soaked hill at Brookvale on Saturday night.

Rabbitohs v Warriors shouldn't be dramatically affected crowd wise.

The reality is that they watch us far more than we watch them: magic round; replicating our glamorous opening round; always talking about their own origin; expansion; the video ref and I`ve even noticed that they`ve adopted terms like halfback, wingers now. Jeff Kennett was calling for a Captains Challenge the other day . Even after Coates spectacular try the other day they almost immediately released footage of some supposedly incredible act of athleticism. You watch, we`ll get a mid-season comp and they`ll be trying to get one. I mean it`s pathetic.
Don`t worry about fumbleball they are watching us like hawks. V`landy`s has them running scared, not dissimilar to the relationship between Vic. and NSW racing now.

Just to straighten some facts…

There have always been wingers and half backs in AFL. There are two wingers and three half backs in every team. And they actually invented Origin. It was dropped 20 years ago and the AFL never mentions it. And nobody in Melbourne is the slightest bit interested in what Jeff Kennett has to say. He has no involvement in the AFL.

Whilst the NRL is catching up to the AFL in a lot of areas, and surpassing it in others, horse racing in Victoria is still miles ahead of NSW. The Everest is the only race of note - Melbourne has four bigger race days.

You sure spend a lot of time worrying about what Victorians are thinking, you seem to be the one doing all the spying on the AFL and Melbourne media. Why so Xenophobic?

Rugby league is nowhere near as big as the UFC... But our crowds are bigger..why?
Because thier arenas are smaller..and it's not great viewing if you're too far away , there's too much going on in detail up close that makes it better on Television unless you can afford the good seats.

They are 2 completely different things!!

And for anyone who questions it, do this: go to both. I have: The MCG was $20 ( don't know what it is now) you could sit wherever you want.. because there's no bad seats( it's equally good anywhere on the ground because contests happen all over the ground) if you sit up high, you get a birds eye view or you can be close to the action.
At that same time in my life I went to a League game where the cheapest seats at the Titans was $25 up in the corner I was allocated a seat where only when they were attacking my corner was I not just watching the big screen.. and to top it off you get about 25 minutes less entertainment.

This comparison needs to stop.

We are actually doing quite well and with some additional event games and a rectangular Accor our top clubs could creep right up to the Swans which would be an incredible achievement given that they represent the AFL support in Sydney concentrated into one team.

a sellout which is only 12.5k is a big negative for such a great and prestigious competition.

I’ve nothing against you or your club but your tiny ground is unacceptable in today’s modern NRL.

Variety of backdrops and atmospheres enhances the competition for all spectators and viewers.

Nobody would argue that revenue forgone is a short-term downside. Sharks and Dolphins prioritizing loyal local fans is a long-term investment.

They certainly are, which is what prevented the NRL from subsidising games in the past.

Previous attempts were blocked by the clubs because naturally the NRL didn't want to subsidise or buy an equal number of games from all clubs. The clubs have even protested in the past about the NRL even having a budget to help promote games, arguing that money should just go directly to the clubs.

With the game in a better financial position & PVL not being afraid to push back on the clubs, it could possibly be attempted again. It would be great if it happened, just to try and solidify those big event games.

the good news seems to be that apart from games at Homebush, there is little need to have any cheap ticket giveaways as most games seem to get around 60 - 70% capacity without much extra promotion

A few games a year in the middle of the season at Homebush with $5 tickets might still be worthwhile. They can say that the money goes to charity

Comparisons between the two competitions are always unfair on NRL because RL has had to contend with Rugby Union in its heartland for the last 115 years. AFL has had no such competitor right in its face all the time. League's main advantage over Aussie Rules is that we have some international presence - England, France, NZ and the pacific islands.

RL did not have to willingly exclude the upper classes and leave them to Union they way they have done.
That should have been corrected decades ago.

i have Friday off and was planning to head out to Homebush for the Dogs/ Roosters game but the weather forecast on Friday is looking dire so don't think i will be travelling far from home now if the predicted weather happens.
