Nrl cumulative men’s and women’s origin
15 million

nrl pre season and most season including all stars 5 million

nz 7 to 10 million

vs afl close to zero
If we get an International Calendar down pat and market it the way it should be. We could be getting another 3-5 games of 1.5-2 Mil every year + Samoa v Tonga - if marketed correctly could be another 1 Mill+ set of fixtures.

Pacific cup will do that

expansion into pacific will help too

England need to stop taking Tonga or Samoa to tour cause it lessens it

@i
Reach figures show an extra 100k watching.

That shows less people dropped off as opposed to a slab of extra fans.

well those people are coming from a non RL supporting background coupled with no extra ratings boxes to match the extra population
reach 5.4 million

is there any info available regarding other media (news, social media impressions, etc)?

I'd love to know how big Origin is in this regard, and I feel this would set it apart from similar sporting contests in Aus. I remember Waleed saying 5 or 6 years ago that Origin was like Australia's 'super bowl'.

Incidentally, I'm amazed at the amount of kids' friends here in Adelaide who were talking about the game or sharing social media regarding Origin. They may not have watched the game on TV, but awareness of the game/brand is unbelievable compared to ten years ago. Lots of highlights shared on social.

I can't help but think that this stems from NRL's positive approach and marketing on social media. And serious thanks to Bluey for 'the decider'. :)

you realise that England is included in 'international' right?
Im not sure why we'd need to make them weaker by not allowing them access to quality competition...this would impact their ability to have a good rating international series at the end of their domestic season.

Google Search Trends Data - Rudimentry but still data. Possibly some noise in other states AFL fans wanting their own State of Origin in AFL - but I believe that feeds into the same thing. They only ever talk about it around Origin time anyway because they want what we have, means they're watching and noticing.

Interest Overall on Per Capita basis for past 12 months
1721275465575.png
1721275482751.png
Summary: All states and territories recorded highest or equal highest interest in "State of Origin" this year. Only one outside this trend was WA, but this was due to past years having games played and heavily promoted in the state. Next year will be the real test of interest there. Still plenty of room for growth in other states and territories, But doing pretty well considering it's a NSW v QLD fixture.

Bonus:
"State of Origin" vs "AFL Grand Final" Australia 2004-2024
Blue = State of Origin
Red = AFL Grand Final

Tests in england don’t help the nrl tv deal

Tonga v Samoa is the cornerstone of the pacific cup

and it won’t happen for another year now

great data, thanks mate!
Quite amazing that NT has higher interest per capita than NSW.
I used to live there, and there's a fair affinity with QLD (origin, cowboys, broncos), so Im guessing that's what showing there.

Lots of pockets of non RL background people in NSW
