I wonder how Henson park will do. They are naturally making it a beer fest with all those breweries nearby. Only problem is timing Sunday evening.

They really picked the worse possible timeslot for it. 6pm on a Sunday isn't great for an NRL game in general, but the match is literally competing with All Stars, the Women's International T20 at the SCG and Ed Sheeran at Accor.

Throw in the predicted rain on Sunday, unfortunately I think it will perform worse than the standard Jet's Beer Food Footy Festivals which comfortably get over 10K.

I've been to those Beer Food and Footy Festivals at Henson for the past four seasons, and they are a great day out.
This was certainly a lost opportunity.
Saturday evening, Parra vs Newtown (replay of the '81 GF).
It would have been a hit!

Really good crowd already at the Womens Indigenous vs Maori game. Commentators mentioned they expected 25k.
Yeah I was reading that the town was loving the attention and influx of tourists into the region giving a real boost to the local economy, apparently they`ve made a real week of it throughout the town.
I love it and have been twice, hope reports that is in danger of being scrapped are off the mark, there`s not another sport in Australia that can do anything like this.

They'd be silly to scrap it IMO, though they should seriously consider what Nicho Hynes suggested and play it week one of the trials, not week two.

Playing this last Friday or Sunday would have seen it get a lot more focus, versus this weekend where it's been competing with 8 trial games for attention.

nah I don't agree with this ,
Crowds have been pretty ok in Australia & I think year around in both countries is the right mix , tho for Australia , maybe keep it in places like Townsville & Newcastle
New Zealand needs to getting as much live NRL content as possible and this is perfect for a New Zealand audience.

play it in the regional towns as well like Hamilton, rotorua and Napier etc.

Nah, this is an invaluable tool spreading the game in Oz as well, especially amongst our Indigenous Australian friends and Islander ex-pat communities. Any rectangular stadium holding around 20 - 30k would be perfect, HBF Perth would be a great spot with our expansion team over there.
Make it a week-long festival celebrating those cultures.
