Watered down a little by begging for an "easy" game in round one.
They requested a close by team to cut travel impact given the schedule they have. York will give us a game like cas did in rd1 last year I reckon.Watered down a little by begging for an "easy" game in round one.
York get a blockbuster start in front of a sold out stadium and play the comps best team who]ll have one eye on the following week and the other on Vegas, Rovers get an easier game than could have been without much travel. Everyone's a winner. That's not the wording thats been used all off season.
The main problem is that football is a fundamentally different game than league. Things like P&R amd even things like the champions league work so much better in football. A physical sport like league just doesn’t work as well IMO.Sports purists will argue P&R is intrinsic to meaningful competition. Business purists will argue it makes no financial sense to have teams changing divisions when theres a massive economic gulf between the two divisions.
English RL has tried both many times, cant say Ive seen one has really performed better than the other over the history of the game.
It’s not just football, most sport has p&R model in uk. It’s part of the sporting culture of Europe, where as franchising/licensing is more in the Australian and American sports culture. The main problem is that football is a fundamentally different game than league. I also think it’s a way to be different to football in the UK.
But was it better without it? I’ve seen both models in play and can’t say I saw much difference in club performance or performance of the sport. Img grading system is the first in my 46 years following the game I’ve actually seen clubs lift their game off the field En masse.Rugby League has had longer periods of history without P&R than it has with P&R. Many will only remember a time where we have had it, so it feels like it’s a must because that’s what people have always known.

But only 1 of those sports is a behemoth like football. The other sports having it doesn't necessarily mean it's the best option for those sports. It’s not just football, most sport has p&R model in uk. Both have their pros and cons.
