Same format as 2003 World Cup

2 x Groups of 7 teams

Top 3 from each group go into Super 6 stage where you then play the 3 other sides from the other group.

Teams who qualified for the Super Six stage only played against the teams from the other group - 2003 had the PCF points system at the start of the Super Six stage so you got 4 points for a win against a side that also qualified from your group and just 1 point for a non-qualified team if you beat them

ResultsAgainst qualified teamsAgainst non-qualified teams
Points carried forward (PCF)
Win
4 points
1 point
No result / tie
2 points
0.5 point
Loss
0 point
0 point

Kenya benefited from this in 2003 by starting the Super Sixes on 10 points getting 8 points off the 2 games they had in Kenya against Sri Lanka & New Zealand who also qualified for Super Sixes and wins against Bangladesh & Canada took them to 10 points.

Top 4 from Super Sixes then qualify for semi finals.

Kenya benefited from New Zealand forfeiting their match against them for security reasons.

Was a pretty good tournament with a lot of upsets and the poms and saffers dumped out at the group stage. And of course we won.

Saffas f**ked up the DLS thinking they were 1 run ahead and Boucher blocked the ball.

Pissed down rain and they went off celebrating while Pollock had his hands in his head shattered.

Tie made them miss the super 6s haha

Would have created a 4 way tie for first in that group had they won the game. Somehow the tie had them 5th from 7. The walkovers caused a bit of chaos but had the saffas known the rules it could have been a much different tournament. That said I think the final remains Aus vs India, easily the two strongest teams at the time.

Yeah they choked haha.

They won 2 of there games by 10 wickets within 20 overs and still missed the super 6s.

They lost to the windies in the 1st game because of a slow over rate. They fell 3 runs short but only batted 49 overs as 1 over was taken off due to poor over-rates.

I would almost be bringing this rule back into white ball cricket in all formats/comps across the games.

Maybe you have 3hr 40 mins to complete 50 overs. When that timer runs out whatever overs you have bowled then its what you have to bat in the 2nd innings.

And if they fielding team that bowls 2nd also don't reach that timer & still fielding then 5 penalty runs for every over short gets added to the chasing team. So if your in the 48th over then the opposition gets 10 penalty runs added in for the 2 overs they are currently behind.

I can get on board with that, I can still remember McCullum playing for the heat taking forever to get through a bowling inning as he would change the field after every single ball. Either that or put a bowl clock on, and if the bowler is late then it’s a no ball and/or a free hit.

Id be giving these bowlers a lot of ODI games , in preparation for the 27 WC

Spencer Johnson (replace Starc)
Kyle Richardson (replace Haze)
Tanveer Sangha (replace Zampa)
Xavier Bartlett (replace Haze if Kyle in injured or reserve)
Aaron Hardie (replace Stoinis in everything)

In reality we could be without (bowlers and keeper) Starc, Carey, Hazlewood and Zampa, big holes to fill

I'm putting it out there: unless something dramatic happens the 4 teams who made the semis of the champions trophy will be the same 4 in the semis at the world cup in 2 years time.

If England get their shit together they could be there top 4
Be hilarious if Baz is still there trotting the same old shit, and they miss out

SA to choke on home soil ?

Matches to be played in Namibia , though Namibia might not be there

If you look at the other contenders:

England: most likely but they are a rabble atm mentally, they think they're far better than they are.
Pakistan: are always the dark horse but in reality they haven't really challenged since 1999. The rest of the world have left them behind.
Sri Lanka and Bangladesh: not enough class.
West Indies: they couldn't even make the last world cup and may battle to do so again.
Afghanistan: can probably claim 2nd spot amongst Asian teams in the white ball capers and are the real dark horses in tournaments.
The rest: no chance.

Two massive test series away that year

India earlier in the year

Ashes mid year

WC Later in the year

Dare to dream, win all 3 ??
Hard to win all 3 in a year.

We still should have won the last 2 Ashes series in the UK which is pretty frustrating were sitting here and actually haven't won there since 2001.

To think we haven't won a test series in England since 2001 with all the great sides we have had is utterly mind boggling.

And those wankers can technically claim they are the last side to win an Ashes outright abroad.

Will India get to play all their matches at the same ground?

Another prediction: they will play the last match of the group stage, super 6 and first semi final.
