Haven't seen the footage but cricinfo's description places Watson squarely in the wrong for the run out.

Running to the non-danger end clearly means it wasn't his call to make. He should have retreated.

Watson has form for running people out too. I recall he refused to run when it wasn't his call last season and ran someone out again (might have even been Katich). they had to go to the 3rd umpire to see who managed to touch down first in the crease
